10-day IL for Ronnie with Rowdy Tellez ( ) called up.

Bit of a gut punch because Walt said last night that they didn't think the injury was that serious and that an IL stint wasn't likely, but I guess the MRI showed something.

Hopefully, they’re being overly cautious with the nine game division lead.

And the reliever injuries have begun

Would be nice if we weren’t riding the two best relievers in baseball harder than a race horse.. oh wait

We either need to increase Fuentes innings or make a move for a high caliber reliever earlier imo to stop the massive innings inflation of Lee and Saurez

Holmes to the pen and let JR and Waldrep eat starter innings

I just hope Ronnie can get healthy in time for the start of the winter ball league.

Waldrep will use all 30 rehab days which means the absolute earliest he starts is July 2ish around there

We are stuck with “I will blow up your bullpen Holmes” starting until then unless JR is meant to take his spot which I hope so badly. He has issue but he is good for 5 typically reliably

Glad to see us finally bring Karinchak up at least. Been kinda baffling to see us leaving him at AAA given some of the scrubs we've been running in the back of the bullpen.

Yeah it was bizzare I think their thought process was they had 3 premier leveraged guys when really they had 2 and Kinley is above average.

Walt has also pushed the aggression we will win every game no matter what switch to 10 often using our leverage guys when tied or even down to try to get that win

Which is great and I’m happy and all but I don’t want Lee and Suarez into the playoffs with 95 innings each

Moving Holmes to the pen would help a bunch with this, he's great the first time through the order and would be a perfect long reliever. Starting JR and having Holmes as backup in the pen would make a ton of sense.

Karinchak should be able to provide similar or better value to Kinley.

When Kinley keeps his slider in the bottom 1/3 of the zone and throws it less than 50% of the time as he ought to push it to 60% he can be great

One mistake though and the slider is up or middle and it gets crushed 500 feet

I can't believe I'll be rooting for this guy now

Referred to him as "their fat frick" whenever we faced the Brewers in the NLDS

Yup. It feels like every game for him is the movie Groundhog Day.
On a roll through the first 2-3 innings. Then by the 4th or 5th, he is around 80 or 85 pitches and hanging on after giving up 2 or 3 runs.

designated RHP Carlos Carrasco for assignment.

He was still on the roster?

I imagine Karinchak in AAA had more to do with the 40 man roster and players with and without options than being strictly performance based.

That would be an all fine and dandy reason if we didn't have garbage pitchers like Carrasco and the other Suarez taking up 40 man and roster spots throughout the year. But we did, so it never made much sense. As soon as Suarez got jettisoned from the team Karinchak should have been brought up.

I got these stats from another site, but as far as Holmes goes:
First time through the order: 2.99 FIP, .248 wOBA
Second time through the order: 6.67 FIP, .398 wOBA
Third time through the order: 4.76 FIP, .320 wOBA

As a reliever: 2.41 FIP, .258 wOBA

So yeah, it pretty much is groundhog day when WW keeps leaving him out there to get blasted second time through over and over. He's just not cut out to be a starter.

I’d lead someone else off either Dubon or Smith. Harris needs to be put in as many situations with runners on as possible

Maybe even Yaz he has been good at getting on base since the first month

He only has two viable pitches

Anything else he throws all have at least -3 run grades

Fuentes has a plus fastball and splitter can throw a pretty mean slider and a cutter to lefties that is what starters need
