heyward already has won a gold glove dumbass
Posted on 5/1/14 at 11:33 pm to cheesesteak501
You mean like he did in 2012?
Posted on 5/1/14 at 11:33 pm to cheesesteak501
Neither the Marlins winning a WS nor Heyward winning a GG are indicative of either's ability as a player.
ETA: And I also doubt that what you said will be true.

i guess the marlins have 1997 and 2003, so he wins this time

You think he is willing to make a ban bet on that?

But they won those as the florida marlins. They haven't done shite as miami.

I know I'd be willing. Heyward will probably win a Gold Glove this year, and even still I would never use a Gold Glove as a true sign of a player's defensive ability. Up until the last couple years, the Gold Glove was only a mark of a guy who could hit and make cool diving plays.

Practically same as Atlanta. WS or bust homie.

Just curious, why are you a Marlins fan? I see that you're an LSU fan and you're from California. Not trying to question your fandom, really just wondering.

I wouldn't have a problem with that. When someone uses RBI and batting average, I have to argue with that.
This is one thing I hate about the new stats, people try to act like the old ones aren't important anymore.
You can't tell me that batting average isn't the best stat for how good a hitter is at hitting the ball and reaching base safely. And you can't tell me RBI's aren't a good indication of how well a player can knock in runs (although RBI's do greatly depend on your teammates).
The new stats are great, but they supplement the old stats, they don't replace them.

You're right I can't, because that is precisely the purpose of that stat.

Right again, because that is precisely the use of that stat.
But neither of those stats is a good measurement of a player's value. Like you even partially admitted, RBI are 100% reliant on others unless you are hitting solo home runs. And as for BA, is a guy who hits .375 with nothing but singles and 0 walks better than a guy who hits .275 with a .380 OBP and slugs .500? I certainly don't think so.

I could use a similar argument as you do for RBI's. If a pitcher throws you strikes you can't walk, so it's not entirely up to the hitter

Except you aren't facing the same pitcher every game so it evens out over a large sample size. You are, for the most part, playing with the same teammates in the same lineup every game.

Just saw something on a fantasy baseball website telling users to be careful starting pitchers in Marlins park bc there are rumors the Marlins are stealing signs at home
