Brandon Crawford wins GG over Simba.

You know it's a great award when the best defender in MLB can't even win the award for his own position.

You don't like Jace Peterson?

I know the Pelicans suck major arse, but get off your damn phone.

I don't HATE him, but I wouldn't care if he was the starter next year. Why not give him another year to see what can happen?

I won't be upset if he is the every day 2B next year but I think he is a fringe regular on a contender at best. I certainly don't view him as part of the core we're trying to build.

I'm probably in the minority on this thought, but what about making Oliviera the everyday 2B and finding some more pop in the lineup to man third and left? I think he could be a decent fit there long term and could be a good 2-hole hitter in the future.

A lot of folks question why the Braves would move Olivera to LF over 2B if you're not going to play him at 3B.
Snippet from AJC regarding Simmons
I don't feel like posting the numbers but AJC isn't wrong here. Head scratcher.
Snippet from AJC regarding Simmons
quote:
Simmons led Crawford in most conventional defensive categories (fielding percentage, errors, double plays, etc.) as well as advanced analytics such as UZR, range factor and Defensive WAR. Simmons has led the NL in Defensive WAR in each of his three full seasons and leads all major league defenders by a wide margin in that category since breaking into the majors during the 2012 season.

They probably wanted to change it up because everyone would get bored with it if they gave it to Simmons every year. It's idiotic that he wouldn't get it when he's widely known as the best defensive SS in the league.

Stupid phone lagged and I hit submit before I could type anything.
I think the Braves are hoping to get more pop from him than a 2 hole hitter.
I think Jace is good enough to play there everyday, especially if we think Albies will be the guy there long term. That being said, it's probably going to be about 3 years before Ozzie is ready. I think Jace is cheap and serviceable enough to keep on through next year and determine if he can improve offensively. If we can use Jace up until Ozzie is ready, we'll be very cheap at 2B for a long time.
Catcher is our most pressing need. I don't think we need some kind of offensive stud at C either. To me, we need a guy who knows how to handle a staff and is elite defensively. We have a lot of young pitchers and it'll be very important to have a guy who will be able to help them as much as possible. That said, if we can get a guy who will be a good hitter at C then so be it. I think we're going hard after Lucroy.
That means we have to go out and get a guy who's going to OPS over .800 at 3B. Again, we have two guys in the organization who could do it. Rio Ruiz (I'll probably get hammered for that) and Austin Riley. I know Ruiz hasn't looked great, but he did have a couple of strong months in June and August (OPS of 804 and 835 respectively). Plus, he's still going to be 2 years younger than the average for his league at the start of next season. Hopefully he's turning the corner. Riley is a ways away, but he looks good. It'll probably be at least 2019 even if they rush him. I think we need to sign a free agent to a 2 year deal with a 3rd year club option. That'll give us time to see if Ruiz will pan out. If not, we'll also be able to tell if we think Riley will work out. If we think he will, we can just get another stopgap. If not, we can determine what to do from there.
I think it'd be good to try to get a veteran starter, but I don't think it needs to be a high dollar or long term guy. I think a middle to back of the rotation guy who can provide some veteran mentorship would be good. That way we can continue to roll with Miller, Teheran, Veteran FA, Wisler, and continue to allow the young guys to battle for the 5th spot.
All that being said, if we want to contend by 2017, I think we need to address C, a SP, and a RP or two this winter, 3B at the trade deadline, and determine if we can continue with Jace after this season.

There really is no stat or advanced metric where Crawford is ahead. Makes no sense. Only thing I can think of is they took team record into play which is idiotic.
I'm really pissed off about this even though I probably shouldn't be.

Honestly, this could be a good thing. Yes he should be honored for his achievement, but maybe this motivates him to get better and work on his hitting more this offseason.

Maybin on the block
quote:
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Braves have informed teams that Cameron Maybin is available.
The Braves are also trying to build interest in Nick Swisher, but Maybin is understandably more attractive to teams. He turns 29 next April and is owed $8 million in 2016, with a $9 million club option for 2017 or a $1 million buyout. He's coming off a solid rebound season where he batted .267/.327/.370 with 10 home runs, 59 RBI, and 23 stolen bases over 141 games

Cameron Maybin 1st Half: 289/356/418
Cameron Maybin 2nd Half: 240/289/311
Should have sold high at the trade deadline.
