Maybe my judgement is clouded on that by all the beatdowns LSU had received courtesy of Spurrier and UF
They beat the shite out of us that year too 44-15 in Tiger Stadium

I believe they were the first team to go wire-to-wire.

'01 Miami is the most talented team of all time. There's probably no debate about that. But I can't rightly call a team coached by Larry Coker the best team of all time.

You want to argue about Miami playing no one, and then list FSU. They had a 1 game regular season. Granted UF was a very good team annually then. But the ACC might of been even worse then than it is now.

Since no one saw them play...except Peej and Keith Jackson (who ranked them the best of all-time) it's hard to talk about the 1972 Trojans...
But this is worth mentioning what their peers thought about them:
USC, coached by John McKay, finished the season 12-0 after blowing out Ohio State 42-17 in the Rose Bowl. In the process, the Trojans became the first team to be named No. 1 on every ballot of both the coaches and media polls.
That includes...1971 Nebraska. Which says something.
The `72 Trojans beat their 12 opponents by an average of almost 28 points per game. Their schedule included six ranked teams -- No. 4 Nebraska, No. 15 Stanford, No. 18 Washington, No. 14 UCLA, No. 10 Notre Dame, and No. 3 Ohio State -- which USC beat by an average of 20.2 points per game.

Now that is the best reason I have heard yet supporting that claim

Only team that wouldve given Miami a game that year wouldve been Florida. that wouldve still been an arse kicking.

I think that game would have been close. UF was IMO the 2nd best team that year and this being a rivalry game would have brought out the best in both teams. These are two teams that absolutely hate each other and would have been a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

Ed Reed didn't pick off the pass against BC. He took it from his own teammated and raced in for 6.
And who mentioned K-State? That was '98...they went to the Alamo Bowl and promptly lost to a Drew Brees' led Purdue squad.

trendy preseason pick out west but not that of as a legitimate candidate when pitted against the might of the SEC or ACC,
Miami was in the Big East then

Yeah, that's the biggest screw job in BCS history. I've posted it many times.

I thought Miami the previous year was a bigger screw job. They even beat FSU that year.

2000 was weird...there was this deal where FSU gets in to play OU. The Seminoles had a loss to Miami by 3 points at the Orange Bowl. Miami only had one loss which was to Washington, by 5 points and in Seattle. Washington also had only 1 loss, which was against a 10-2 Oregon squad in Autzen Stadium.
Ironically enough, the Huskies did have a key win over Oregon State, who also finished 10-1. The Beavers lone loss was in Seattle by 3 points.
So you could argue that FSU, Miami, Washington, or MAYBE Oregon State could have been in the game against OU.

If it had been Washington, I don't think there is nearly controversy. I think Miami was better, and proved it the following year, but Washington did have a legit argument too. FSU, just simply didn't deserve to be there IMO

Not even close? Are you smoking wacky weed?
Get the frick out of here with that. 1995 Nebraska has a better resume and was just a beastly team but that Miami team had all stars at every position.

Yes the Huskies did beat Miami that year but they won 7 games by 10 points or less.
I never thought they were that good.
I still think they should have been ranked ahead of Miami that year after beating them and playing and beating more ranked teams.
Miami beat FSU by 3 points and lost to UW. The rest of their schedule sort of stunk...
McNeese State
West Virginia (mediocre .500 club)
Rutgers (when they were one of the worst teams in America)
Temple - ditto
Louisiana Tech
VaTech
Pitt
Syracuse
Boston College
I have no problem with FSU playing OU.
If anyone should have gotten the nod it should have been UW - but like I said, I thought FSU was a better team.

How are they keeping up? Do you know about USC's run D? Incredibly balanced team on offense too with the run and pass so Bama couldn't load up like they were able to do with their opponents last year. USC shut down Adrian Peterson. Sedrick Ellis, Matt Grootegoed, Lofa Tatupu and Shaun Cody were beasts.
Talk about 2001 Miami - Twenty-eight players on the 2004 USC roster became NFL draft picks.
