Honestly, if Cutler were on a TEAM like that FULL of HOFers, I'm sure he would have been considered great.

Didn't he tear up his MCL in that game?

There are some stats that help you do that. Passer Rating Index is a pretty good start, which compares your rating to the league average. Aikman was above 100 (league average) 9 of his 12 years, and averaged 104.5 for his career. Cutler was above 100 8 of 12 years, with an average of 100.3, ergo, Aikman was better than Cutler. For reference, Joe Montana never had a year below 100, and averaged 122.5

Passer rating is only worthwhile to compare against your contemporaries.

Roger Staubach had a higher passer rating differential against his contemporaries by far...compared to Brady and Manning and Brees who are all lumped together with similar numbers.

In 1971 Roger Staubach QB rating was 104.8% vs. league average of 68.5%.

In 1973 Roger Staubach was 94.% - the league average was 45.8%.

(It was almost impossible to pass in the 1970's given the freedom of defenses to rape you) but that's how much better Staubach was over his fellow QBs.

And people don't say Stabler isn't a HOFer...

In 1976 his QB rating 103.4% vs. league average of 54.3%.

Stabler was almost 50% points higher than the entire league average.

But the worst years for offense in Pro Football because of rules favoring the defense was in 1978...

Roger Staubach had a QB rating of 84.9% - the league average was 30.6%.

That would mean Brady and Manning during their careers when all their competitors even journeyman had above 90 - Brady and Manning would have had to have averaged 160 passer rating their careers to match Staubach distance over his peers.

Ryan Fitzpatrick went to Harvard. Makes a lot of dumb mistakes on the field.

Real life intelligence and QB intelligence are two very different things.

It's hilarious that people continue to believe this myth.

The comparison to Aikman is a dumb one, but Cutler was a better QB than he gets credit for. He played for a lot of awful teams and the Bears were still the 2nd best scoring offense in the league in 2013.
