small time school thinks it's the big time, and it can't handle it

Too big for their britches. Spike Dykes was good but never took them as far as Mike Leach. A ;lot of schools would take Leach. How many want to live in Lubbock?

Not to mention the publicity they get from him being their coach. I mean, Tech without Leach will never again be mentioned on 60 minutes.

If they don't re-up, and Leach stays, they are fricked. Recruiting Limbo. TT has to decide if they want to be 1st Class or 2nd Class.

They are trying to put a Boston College type rope around his neck. That's not realistic in today's coaching world. Bite the bullet and pay the man.

Yep.

Their fans have the mindset of ULL folks....but it is magnified b/c they are in a real conference.

To me it is similar to Ole Miss firing Coach Cut. Certainly a lot more going on, but if a decent looking girl gets you inside the Playboy mansion for the first time, dont go thinking you are going to pull a threesome with the hot chicks. You end up back out on the street.

According to what I've read, salary is not the issue. They've agreed on $12.7 million. It's the other terms that they're disputing. Tech wants to own the rights to all of Leach's non-salary income--if he writes a book or gets a speaking engagement, for example. Imagine that Oliver Stone wants to do a movie on Leach's life and Tech gets the royalty. For Tech's part, it sees the extra income as payback for all the money it has spent trying to get its football program up to the top level. For Leach, I'm sure he's thinking he does not want to sign up for indentured servitude.
