That won't always be true.
You're right. But it would be EXTREMELY rare for there to be more than 5 even halfway deserving teams/holy shite we can't tell which of these 6 teams are the best!!!"
You could argue this year might shake out to be one of those years.
Clemson
ND
Georgia
4a. Alabama
5a. Oklahoma
6a. Ohio State
This year would be a tough year to explain why there aren't 6 deserving teams in this scenario. But I don't think this would usually be the case.

Rematches are always different.
And the loser almost always wins...call it unfair to beat a team twice mind block...but teams that won the first time, seem to be facing not only the team in front of them but mental blocks and history.
OU wins in a low scoring match...this game will be completely different from the first. See Bama vs. LSU

This year could also be:
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
6. UCF
Other years are more of the same. Six teams that you'd easily be able to argue as some of the best.

The perfect system would change every year according to these rules
1. Undefeated P5 auto bid
2. If there are zero or only one undefeated P5, all 1-loss P5 get a bid.
Keep emphasis on regular season and going undefeated. BCS was perfect some years. 2 undefeated teams, the end. It would solve every year that was controversial. Auburn doesn't get left out. USC doesn't get left out.
As it stands right now it'd be a 3-team playoff. Bama and Clemson both lose, OSU and OU win, it'd be a 5. That's why it would never happen

These are the simulation rankings for the BcS every year.

There is only one year that the team who won the championship would have been in. The BcS was never perfect. The playoff can never be perfect either when you have four spots and five "power" conferences, especially when you're going to leave the champions out some years for teams who didn't win anything.

Texas was in the process of a monumental blowout in the first game, before Herman inexplicably took the foot off the gas in the 4th quarter to run clock.
Kyler wants this one so bad he might press too much. Or hang 80 on the board.

So nothing.
There is only one year that the team who won the championship would have been in. Period.

As long as an undefeated wasn't shut out, or all 1-loss teams were given an equal shot then it was perfect.

What you say is true but it is very difficult to beat the same team twice in one season, especially if it one of your rivals.
