Tennis Channel's 100 greatest tennis players of all-time

Tennis Channel has been airing a special five-part series this week counting down the top 100 players of all-time and they just finished the list today. Federer was #1 followed by Laver, Graf, Navratilova, and Sampras.
The top 5 looks OK but there are some other rankings which seems a little puzzling. For example, Serena's at 14 behind McEnroe and Agassi. I know men's tennis is a lot harder to dominate but Serena has 13 grand slam titles including four GS titles in a row in 2002-2003 and also has 12 doubles GS titles. I don't see how McEnroe or Andre had better careers than her. Also with the bias towards men's tennis, I have no idea how Martina Hingis is ranked above Pancho Gonzales (who is ranked way too low) and Djokovic.

I agree with this too. They should have had a top 50 women's players list and a top 50 men's players list. It's really difficult to measure the accomplishments of Steffi Graf to someone like Roger Federer.

Guga is underrated

First thing that came to mind. The idea that Borg is the 7th best person to pick-up a racquet is hysterically idiotic if not maddening.

1st of all THERE is NO way Chris Evert is above BJK.
I will not disagree with the rest of the top ten.
BUT..........

This is an ABSOLUTE JOKE.People don't have a CLUE what JOHN MAC did for Tennis in this country.

Also, Arthur Ashe only at 28? I have no idea of his actual tennis record but perhaps today he is more fondly remembered than his game actually was? Who knows.

I agree, but it isn't hard to unfilter it yourself.
Any girl rated higher than another girl is better than that girl and same for the men.
Therefore, Borg is 5th amongst men. Serena is 6th among women.

Agassi was good but not awesome? the guy won 8 grand slam titles and is considered the greatest returner of serve ever.
and Agassi hated tennis

The thing about Agassi is that he flaked out for a good chunk of his prime and won several slams against weak draws during the transition era. Connors and Lendl were much more accomplished tennis players.

Agassi is a personal favorite. Guy was a warrior on the court

did Agassi win the French? If so, he is one of a handful to win all of the slams---something that most great American tennis players of the last 40 years have not accomplished.

Yes, Aggasi won the career slam, but his competition, especially on clay, was very weak compared to what McEnroe faced

i like how you think that validates your statement

I'm a huge Agassi fanboy, but I kinda agree with this. Agassi's legacy is part his aura/appearance and part his longevity. Had he not gone on his epic run late no one would be talking about him the way they do now.
Granted it's arguably one of the most impressive feats in tennis history (IMO), but it goes to show how lazy he was throughout parts of his career.

Ivan Lendl is underrated at #18.
