They make more money in FBS, sure
More money means more money for the other sports.

If LSU is on tv, the same time NLU is playing Arkansas State, everyone will tailgate out by DeSiard and then at 6, pack it up and head home to watch the LSU game. It became like this in 2000-2001.

does anyone know if the ULL-Southern game was actually played in Lafayette? There stadium capacity is 31k, yet somehow 41k+ attended that game..

It took too long to get into a conference. When you're a scrub school, independence means your team has literally nothing for which to play (looking in your direction, Fighting Irish).
NLU/ULM should have done WAY more to try and synchronize its move up with the formation of football's Sun Belt. That 5- or 6-year span of independence made ULM football just a bit too boring for Joe Blow.
This is the ultimate reason for ULM's current place in college football. I was a student there before, during, and after the transition to I-A. It was cool in the beginning, conference affiliation didn't matter the first couple of years. But after that, it was obvious things weren't getting better. The administration's lack of foresight when they decided to move to I-A is THE reason for ULM's demise. Apparently they didn't think it would matter. They were wrong. I'm not saying we would be a Top 25 team had we joined a conference in 1994, but I don't think things would be this bad. We would easlily be as good or better than Tech, not that that is saying much. We may be right now anyway. This year we were.

quote:You couldn't be more spot on. In the first two years, ULM finished 5-6 each year and even knocked down an SEC team (MSU). There was no reason to believe things wouldn't continue to get better. Had the Sun Belt begun in 1996 instead of 2001, or had ULM gone 1A in 2000 rather than 1994, we'd be discussing a very different--and better--history.

Nevertheless, the inevitable, though delayed, is here.
ULM is better than Tech.

Except I'm not a Tech fan
I'm enjoying the 70 pages of Tech Envy by desperate fans who support a suck program at a suck school in a suck town. But, you did hire a coach with a track record to match. It should be a perfect fit.

Have you been to Ruston? What is there to envy?
Have you been to the ULM campus lately? Not much to complain about IMO. Tons better than when I went there.

That's about it.

There are more Tech fans in Monroe than ULM fans... sad but true. Of course there are more LSU fans than both schools.
Tech has some big money alumni that are finally starting to spend money on facilities and pay enough to get decent coaches. Averaging 20k for a bad 4-8 year is not bad. The school is expanding and if they merge with LSUS they will approach 20k in enrollment.
Heck if ULM could have won their last game at home the would be 7-5 and bowling and still no one showed up... 12k for one their best season in D1 ever is just sad. ULM needs to quit worring about what Tech is doing and start recruiting fans and $ for their program. Tech looks to be staying in D1...

Been to both many times; since before you were born. If things are so great, why do you ULM fans continue to beg Tech to play you?

Tech played tough an LSU team that didn't give a shite and one with Jarrett Lee at QB. Obviously they are deserving.

Woooo!!!
I honestly can't remember the last time I drove over to Tech and begged them to play us. Although I'm really trying to remember.

Sure is a lot of beggin' in this thread.

That and our run D couldn't tackle the Tech backs...

I haven't seen much begging. Just a lot of opinions on why ULM and Tech should start playing again. It was once a good rivalry and could be again if renewed. Nothing but positives on both sides would result IMO.
