I've coached travel ball for years. Main thing is to work on control first (getting it across plate) over speed..the speed will come in time. Doesn't matter how hard you through if you can't throw strikes

That's a different philosophy that I haven't heard. Not one of my soft throwing pitchers who could throw strikes ever made it as a high school pitcher. On the other hand every single good pitcher we had at the high school level could throw hard when they were young.
They can't overthrow, but if they get used to throwing easy, they will never make it as a pitcher.

My son will be born in a week or two!

Thanks for all of the input everyone. Hopefully we can make it through this season and she won't be too discouraged and will want to continue pitching.

Maybe I didn't say that right....starting out don't over throw (speed) throw under control...if you throw as hard as you can you tend to overthrow and lose your control.throw hard but under control....I didn't mean to slow toss pitches...10 yr old 30-35 MPH 11-12 35-45 MPH
13-14..45-55 MPH 16+upper 50's +
