bullshite. There should always be situations where a team drops after a win, especially this early in the season. My ballot will change drastically from week to week, especially this early in the year. If the Navy game had occurred 6-7 weeks into the year, and OSU had already established themselves as a contender, then the penalty for barely winning against a mediocre team would not have been as severe.

Any money says they dont drop out of the top ten. As poorly as OSU played, Navy is no pushover. This is a team that went 8-5 and to a bowl last year.

With this theory where does LSU fall to after being outplayed by a team that has lost 14 in a row? I say they dont drop but with your theory they should.

Who's top ten? The AP? Well of course not. The writers are gonna stick by their guns and keep them up there. They never penalize teams for bad wins. I do, which is why OSU and LSU are no longer in my top 10.

First of all, we aren't the Coaches poll - we can do whatever the hell we want. Second, the actual polls are actually fluid in the first couple weeks and probably should be more so. Preseason rankings are already a flawed system and you want to keep them even more flawed, by not allowing an overrated team to squeak out a win against a weak opponent.

Like I said, LSU and OSU both fell out of my top ten. If I voted on the top 20, OSU would be between 12-14 and LSU would be near #20, if that.

Me too. Except LSU. I'm biased and I couldn't think of anyone to put ahead of them. So, I left em in there.:jgg:

No such thing IMO.

I also believe that was sort of a trap game for LSU.

Travel across the country and play a team that hasnt won in over a year.

With a new defensive scheme, and a QB that is starting his third game.

Oh...and by the time the 2nd half starts, they are playing football when their bodies think it 11:45 at night.

A win is a win.

They might stay in the top ten, but I almost expect OSU (and LSU) to drop a spot or too.

LSU dropped a couple spots in '96 when Faulk had to lead us back against Houston; we dropped again in that thriller against Oregon State in 2004.

I would agree that "a win is a win" if there weren't preseason polls. But OSU already gets an advantage by being ranked 6th before they win a game. Now we can re-evaluate and see that other teams did more impressive things.

That's flawed logic, imo. If you don't penalize a team for a bad win, then it gives more strength to a preseason ranking that has nothing to due with performance on the field. I think its crucial to be fluid with the rankings this early on.

I get all of that, and if LSU bounces back and looks like a Top 10 team against Vandy, then they will be rewarded for it.

a new everything. IMO, this is one of the reasons Washington had such success in the 1st half. LSU never knew what to prepare for to begin with anyway.

I'd like to know what they were preparing for in practices during the week.

A message to OSU fans:

We'll know pretty fricking fast where this team is after this week. Stop crying about any sort of ranking because it will all get sorted out in 5 days.

+1. They either beat USC or they don't. In the end it doesn't really matter if they beat Navy by 1 or 100 or what they are ranked this week. They will be #3 or #20 next week.
