On Wednesday, Washington announced it had signed Taylor Heinicke to a two-year extension. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the new deal is worth $8.75 million, and includes incentives for number of games started.
Good for him, basically making almost 9 million from one performance. Will he be the WFT QB of the future?

I think the $8.75 mil is the max he can make if he gets all the incentives. Not sure what the base salary is. Either way it's good for both parties as a prove it deal.

If he flames out it doesn't cost WFT much and there's worse backups to have. If he's the real deal they get some cheap years in a league where teams are paying out the arse for QB contracts.

As for Heinicke, this is quite a big step up from being a career practice squad player and he has an opportunity to get his big break. If it doesn't work out at least he gets a lot more cash the next couple of years than he would have being a practice squadder taking college courses.

You are more optimistic than me, I thought they burned him.

In an effort to make salary cap space, the Oakland Raiders restructured the contract of quarterback Matt Flynn, turning a good portion of his $3.25 million salary for the 2013 season into a signing bonus.

Tells you a lot about the sad state of affairs in the QB market.

This guy couldn't win a starting spot in the XFL. He didn't see a snap for Battle Hawks. But goes right into top3 on NFL depth chart. Yikes!

Not really. There are plenty of better QB options out there. Washington was in the running for Stafford but didn’t get him. I also think they’re interested in both Raiders QBs.

They didn’t sign Heinicke to be future of the franchise... only to be a solid backup that did well under pressure in his 2 appearances last year.

The only way Heincke starts is if they miss on every other target.

Well he did throw for 300 yards and a touchdown and rush for another against the eventual Super Bowl champions with a team that couldn't find their arse with both hands the entire regular season. I think that deserves to at least stay on the payroll.
