I'm in agreement with those who support the baseball method (sign out of high school if you're good enough, otherwise play x years in college, and I would advocate at least 2 if not 3).

Remember also, basketball players have other options:
1. Go overseas (Desmond Jennings did this and though it wasn't as smooth sailing as he wished, he admitted upfront his goal was pro ball and didn't waste any college team's time)
2. JUCO route (can declare again after only one year or after two years).

there are other leagues. They are just not as popular. In addition to that, the reason you don't know about the other leagues, is because the NBA has the better product, because the league has guidelines in place to protect it's product not to exclude people from joining.

If you let 17 yr old kids in whats to stop a 16 or 15 yr old from trying to get in the NBA?

Are you seriously saying that the NBA is the only avenue available for someone to get paid to play basketball in the USA?

The only real one, yes. What other league can you make real money in here?

Why does the definition of monopoly change when you talk about basketball?

Quality response, and a good point made.

I just don't see why the NBA shouldn't be the best basketball players in america, regardless of age. This year the NBA wasn't an assembly of the best talent in the league, considering Kentucky's entire team was good enough to play in it.

I'm not even a fan of 1 year, but I don't see how anyone could support something like a 3 year rule without admitting it's for selfish reasons (Cuban, Calipari, etc.). I understand why they would want it, but the idea of forcing a guy like LeBron or Durant to waste 3 years in college is insanity.

Now I know you're crazy!!

If by KU's team you mean the starting five, then you honeslty don't know the game of basketball.

Teague, Jones or Lamb wouldn't have started in the NBA this year. MKG and AD are good but, lets not jump to conclusions.

Are there other places in the US to play basketball and get paid for it? Just because you may not think there is competition, doesn't mean there isn't.

Also, eliminating basketball worldwide as competition is naive at best and intellectually dishonest at worst.

The exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.

No, can you read?

Lets say I wanted to start my own league tomorrow. If I could get enough teams started to draw an proftiable interest there is nothing the NBA or any other league can do about it.

I never said START, but they're certainly good enough to be on rosters and some of them would see PT. isn't their entire starting 5 entering the draft?

you don't think Anthony Davis could've been a starter for the bobcats or wizards this year?

I get could also get five players from the D-league or overseas who could get roster spots or PT on some team in the NBA.

However you just proved my point for me. The NBA is about stars and nor marginal talent. Letting a 17 yr old in just because he can get a roster spot does nothing for the overall image or profitability of the game, let alone a frickin 15 or 16 yr old.

I agree... so how does making guys like anthony davis or john wall (HUGE-name recruits) spend a year in college promote the nba brand?

IMO huge recruit doesn't equal NBA talent and thank God the league knows this. John Wall isn't as good as Kyrie Irvin and problaby should have stayed at kentucky, Anthony Davis has potential but nothing like KG, LB, or Kobe.

Again, baseball rule brah. I agree with everybody that's been saying it in this thread except cut it down to a required two years of college and 20 years of age instead of three years and 21 years of age.

PERFECT example.... this dude is beast in the NBA yet he barely even played (11 games) at Duke b/c of injury. He CLEARLY did not need CBB to compete in the NBA.

How bout derrick Rose? They made him do CBB for a year and he clearly had no business being a student
