Thats ridiculous to guarantee them a spot if they are ranked 12 or higher. With the soft schedule they play every year they should be in the playoffs every year. I hope this happens every year and the get annihilated every year they are allowed in on a technicality. Just shows you dont have faith in your team and need help to secure a spot in the playoff.

It’s just an MOU, they don’t even have official set rules for the 2026 playoff, they postponed that discussion which was supposed to have a December 1st deadline to a January 23rd deadline.

We’re going to get changes to the format, and I doubt ND is actually singled out once the official rules are set. I would bet the more likely scenario is that they just get rid of all auto-bids. The SEC will now never agree to the proposed 4-4 auto-bid format that the Big Ten was pushing because they got 5 teams in this playoff while the Big Ten only got in 3.

Yet its a travesty that a group of 5 team who wins the conference gets in.

It’s definitely a wasted game, no one honestly thinks the G5 teams are on the same level as the best P4 schools.

Why not just have the Big 10 and SEC merge. Let them play against each other.

It's moving towards the P4 conferences eventually separating from the NCAA and forming their own league. And it will, in time, be a better product for it. Traditionalist don't like it, and I understand why, but the days of regional conferences are long over. The excitement re: bowl games are over. A league separate from the NCAA will potentially go a long way to allowing the conferences/leagues and players to negotiate some sort of agreeable revenue sharing and guardrails on compensation, eligibility, player movement, etc.

The TV contracts will dictate the timing and pace of the change.

We really should just have Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas and Ohio St play in a 4 team playoff every year.

We really need to look out for those poor blue bloods.

I just want to watch the best games on the field.

No one is under the impression that Ole Miss vs Tulane and Oregon vs James Madison are better or more enjoyable games than Ole Miss vs Notre Dame and Oregon vs Texas or Vandy.

Who wants to tune into a game that’s going to have a three score spread? It’s a waste of what could be a “good” game.
