It easy to look back when you're older and realize how little the things in school actually matter, but to the kids still in school, and especially the kind of kids who attend Stanford, it probably felt like her world was ending.

Agree.

Also might have been worried that she had no future - just no degree, getting kicked out of school, and private school debt. Potentially scary.

I'm likely older than her parents so I know better.

I blame the legal system.
parents can't handle it and trying to pin blame on someone else, not on the daughter.
no one should take this case. parents, get counseling.

Maybe they should look inward.

Or they could just be struggling to grasp with losing their daughter.

The lack of sensitivity ITT regarding suicide isn’t shocking, but it’s sad.

Struggling with the loss of a daughter by cashing in on it? Stop.

The lawsuit is real and valid. The night of her suicide she received an email from a Stanford Professor, 5 pages single spaced, threatening her graduation status over an incident involving a Stanford football player. Basically saying, we are going to destroy your career and life. Then she ended hers. Sad and tragic.

Suicide is one of the things in this world that truly breaks my heart. The idea that someone would feel that way is just the darkest thing in the world.

With that said, if the parents are suing for money, especially anything more than tuition paid, they have their fricking heart priorities out of whack considering the backstory I know.

Putting a price on your child’s life is sickening to me. Like I said, if they are paying Stanford money for tuition, I can see wanting to stop that and recoup some. I’d have a lot more on my mind and heart than taking money from an institution that won’t be bothered by the tiny dent in their coffers.

Leading with “basically” is usually ridiculously subjective. Do you have the actual quotes from the email?

Of course they don’t, they’re a fricking troll like all the people on the board with “sauces.”

I’m sure nobody who is actually a Stanford alum is going to randomly find this thread, as is not one that is gaining a lot of attention, then register and post vague “specifics” about an incident. Like how a professor was the one that sent the letter, not a member of the administration, or how it was five pages single spaced, like that has any fricking relevance to anything when it was an email.

They’re likely just a dumbass liar looking for bullshite internet clout. They have the curiosity of being a new account, instead of using their regular account that is already full of other known bullshite.

While this incident is terrible and sad, I'm calling bullshite on your whole post. The day a professor, tenured or otherwise, sends a 5 page email "threatening her graduation status over an incident involving a Stanford football player. Basically saying, we are going to destroy your career and life...", is approximately 48 hours before that professor gets suspended and ultimately fired.

This is pure speculation - and not a made up event like above - but I would guess there were other life events that lead to such a sad choice. I don't blame the parents one bit, as grief manifests in people in different ways. I hope they can find some peace.
