without getting into the absurdity of you guys having a compensation pick, but i'm assuming that pick would be wrapped up in the 'loss of several draft picks?'

but the Yankees are, and have been, in the dumpster now

Fair enough.

The issue is how did they obtain the information. Him using the same password is irrelevant. How did STL get access to the database to even attempt to use the password.
As someone said, you can't just google to get the data base and then type in the password.

Is it some type of online database? Is it a private company/service that is provided/offered to multiple clubs/organizations?
Just need more details to come to light honestly. Everything has been very vague so far today.

Nothing would make me happier than to see the MLB fold the cards or force their owner put like the NBA did to the Clippers.. But the opposite happen since they're already good they would get really bad.

It was a proprietary database similar to what he built in St Louis, from what I understand.

It will be just like the ball boy think with the pats, we will find a low level fall guy and everyone else will plead ignorance

Yes.

Depending on what the Feds have, and wether they decide to move forward with prosecution, this could be a two pronged punishment.
MLB with fines and draft picks, or whatever. Then a hefty fine from Uncle Sam, and probably some monetary reparations to the Astros organization.
This is corporate espionage, I'm too busy to look it up, but I'm sure there's some federal precedence for this sort of thing.
I'd imagine that MLB will want to nip this in the bud, to avoid further incidents down the line. Teams are becoming much more tech savvy, and security will be a big deal. Imagine if some shitty hacker fan decided to frick with a teams database, got in and deleted everything or something like that.
This will be a big deal, not as big as some of you would like, but still a big deal. It will be interesting to see if or how any of the info gained was actually used, or if it was a middle finger to Lunhow because of the mid-management pissing contest that was going on when he was with the Cardinals.

Not that it matters in regard to punishment Cardinals should receive, but I would be surprised if other teams weren't trying to do this somehow.

Lunhow is the greatest mind in baseball. He will make sure the guys at the Cardinals who are responsible pay for this. Hell, he probably tipped off the FBI.

stealing form other teams does seem to be a market inefficiency. Expect moneyball teams to be all over this. Heistball

How fricking stupid is Luhnow to use the same password he used with Cardinals.

I'm sure this joke has been made, but...
The Cardinals are truly the Patriots of the MLB.

So trying to undersstand this thread...
Old Birds on Bat GM makes a database like he had in StL and a disgruntled employee decides to go into it and gets info somehow. Now the MSB wants the Birds to be abolished and thinks everyone involved with the Birds are cheating lying scoundrels?

For a professional sports league? I doubt it, unless spygate counts. Seems pretty unique to me.

quote:so if you have a mold of a key to someone's house, its OK to use that mold to break in and steal shite?
NO one broke a code, hacked a code. they used a pass word on a list that he and other cardinal org people used.
This is basic cyber theft logic by the way. Whether they guessed a pw or not, they INTRUDED
