Bradshaw was a good QB in a league not like today's.

THAT's the key point. The eras are so dramatically different. I don't think Namath or Bradshaw would be anything but pedestrian today. But before Peej strokes out, I don't think Brees would stand a chance in 1977.

Its just a different game.

ones that think that wins/ERA are a direct reflection of a pitcher
So you believe ERA is not a direct reflection of a pitcher? Is that what you're saying? If so, there's not much I can do for you.

If you have the best or worst defense in baseball behind you, it will directly reflect in your ERA.

just as all top NFL QBs are going to be on top NFL teams.
Brees missed the playoffs as a top 4 QB just last season, and has done it like 3 times, maybe 4.

When's the last time atop 5 nba player was on a team that was in the bottom half of the league's best teams?

If you put Peyton Manning on any team in the NFL, that team would become a SuperBowl contender. If you put Lebron James on any team in the NBA, they may or may not be title contenders.
again, agree to disagree. Brees couldn't even get last year's saints to the playoffs, much less a bottom feeder team.

I never said winning SBs are the only thing to look at, but to imply that SBs don't matter is ridiculous. And that's what you did when you asked someone to explain why SBs are even relevant. They are most definitely relevant, but so are a bunch of other factors. Some people choose to put more or less weight on winning Super Bowls. There's no wrong answer unless someone only looks at one side

Likewise, how well you pitch directly reflects in your ERA. To a much larger extent than the defense behind you.

when given the fact that FIP is a better indicator of future performance, you kinda have to concede that it's a better measure than ERA, right?

Because Brees won one and Ryan hasn't. It's what they cling on to in order to forget their franchise has been shite for most of the time they have been in the NFL.

If Brees didn't win one and still played at the same level they wouldn't put as much stock in it.

That was definitely a dumb assumption.

I agree that it's stupid to judge quarterbacks on Super Bowls. The quarterback's job is to score tds. The defenses job is to stop the other team from scoring tds. The coaches job is to win games.
