Hammond, America runs the SLC!!! Back to back walk off conference titles over MacNiece a year apart exactly on their home field. Baseball ended a crazy 10 game losing streak to Nickels to take the regular season title.

Decent showing in the SLC tournament should get us in the tournament. Blew 4-5 games that would probably have secured us a bid, and probably a 2 seed.

I really thought southeastern baseball was gonna fall off after Artigues seemed to force Riser out

Guess I was wrong

Conversely... Riser & Memphis are currently tied for last place in the AAC heading into the final weekend of the regular season there

ETA: SLU won a weekend series at Memphis during non-conference play this season

A bad pitch away from a sweep at that. I wasn’t a fan of how the Riser situation was handled but Barbier has been a pleasant surprise.

If SLU had McNeese’s leadership in the admin and athletic department they would be a dominating mid major. Alas we have another president who mildly cares about athletics, an AD who cares more about his travel ball program, and a sports marketing department that does the best they can with table scraps.

The only way I see a two bid Southland conference is SLU beating UTRGV in the championship. With SLU taking the auto bid and UTRGV getting it with an out large bid but even that is slim chances

The head of the committee is Artigues I believe. You would think that SLU is in the field of 64 unless they go 2 and Q in the conference tournament.

Sir this is a message board!

Naw I don’t think you can fault artigues for anything. Most of the sports are competing, Atleast in conf play. Barbier and his staff looks like a solid move. And riser got a pay raise and bigger program. Sometimes it’s time for both parties to make a move.

I just remember at the time there being some hub bub about Artigues/Riser power struggle and something with Artigues’s son. Guess that was wrong

Complaining about Artigues is shallow. Most sports are competing at a high level in their respective divisions on a very limited budget.

And yes, he chairs the NCAA baseball committee this year…I would expect SLU to possibly avoid Baton Rouge.

Just lost one of the most successful women's basketball coaches in SLU history to McNeese.

Firing Riser maybe was justified, but the process was very sketchy. It's working out for sure, but seems more luck than anything.

Scelfo had to get an offer from Lamar to get a raise, and was truly a foot out the door. He turned around and hired his son with no experience to be the OC.

Fremin is going to get a big offer at him this season, it'll be interesting how he navigates that situation

Construction on the facilities upgrades are way behind. NIL money raised are minimal. Marketing is almost non-existent.

It's not that Jay is doing a bad job, it's that he could be doing a better job.

Do you really believe it’s luck that the baseball team is having success? Come on man, there’s plenty of talent on that team and Barbier has proven to be a good coach with a damn good staff.

Admittedly, I don’t follow the other sports closely but pretty sure the women’s basketball coach was basically a lateral move.
Softball won the conference and I believe volleyball did too.
Things seem to be going pretty well, and you know as well as I do, raising NIL and facility upgrades money at SLU, in Hammond, isn’t easy.

No, sorry if I wasn't clear. Barbier is crushing it. Very impressed with how quickly he turned the team around.

It was a bit of luck that the messy break up with Riser and then the quick turn around hire of Barbier, who did not have an impressive resume at NWSU, has worked out for Artigues.

Softball has been an SLC powerhouse, and volleyball had one of the longest win streaks in the country at one point. Women's soccer had some solid years the last few years, and women's basketball won the SLC regular season and made the SLC tournament finals. Overall, LSU is probably the only better women's athletics program in the state.

The whole university needs to be better about fundraising and branding. I went all over Covington and Mandeville trying to find my son an SLU shirt during football season and couldn't find anything. That's nuts that 25 minutes from campus you can't get SLU gear. Not saying it needs to be as big of a display as LSU or anything, but like 2 options would be nice.

I give what I can, which currently isn't anything significant in the grand scheme of things, but it's because I want to, not because the school ever solicits it. I get numerous calls a year from LSU Law School asking for donations.
