Well, heard that the Meridian coach turned it down. Citing his wife has a really good job up there.

man, I feel like you’ve got to have his replacement already lined up before firing a guy like Riser.
if it’s true the MCC Coach turned y’all down, this could quickly turn into a shite show.

seems unlikely that Mr Dean would be interested in leaving NO w/o a significant bump in pay, but IDK.
hopefully your AD has a solid Plan B that includes a short list of viable candidates and can make a quality hire relatively quickly.

Same thing I’ve heard too. Hammond is still a small town in SELA. They can’t keep their mouths shut on any kind of scandalous behavior. It’ll come out eventually.

Yep, just like the Canevari stuff came out.

Sudds wouldn't be terrible. J Hill wouldn't be bad. I think Jay needs to get away from his coaching tree. If this was Bear Bryant or Skip Bertman, sure. But Jay wasn't a great coach and had a terrible philosophy. The last thing I want to see in Hammond is a Jay guy who wants to continue to the program along the same philosophy.

Would J Hill really leave for Southeastern seems like a lateral job?

J Hill could see SLU as an improvement bc of SLU's proximity to BR and NOLA. I truly don't know and don't follow the Southland enough at this point to say for sure. But I'm fairly certain you could build a decent Southland team out of BR and NOLA guys who weren't recruited by LSU/ULL/Tulane.

from what I’ve hear the hitting coach is a dipshite

Team sure acts the part.

I would love if we brought Hill over, but I just can’t see him leaving. He’s got a solid gig in Lake Chuck and the SLC gave them home field advantage for the tournament for the next few years.

Shreveport-Bossier Journal

quote:

But Southeastern Louisiana’s baseball resources are unquestionably second to none in the league currently, which could result in the Lions hiring Demons’ coach Bobby Barbier.

Baseball America national writer Teddy Cahill reported Thursday that Barbier has emerged as the likely pick at SLU, which fired veteran coach Matt Riser shortly after the end of the regular season. The Lions finished eighth in the nine-team league and did not qualify for the seven-team Southland Tournament, finishing with an overall record of 25-25 and a league mark of 9-14.

An announcement could happen as early as Monday, sources close to the SLU Athletic Department indicated. Barbier was unavailable for comment Thursday evening.

I think it's 4 (this season being year 1)... and not just baseball either

McNeese is hosting the basketball (both men & women) and softball tournaments as well... maybe more I can't think of at the moment

This all happened b/c the Southland was desperate to stop hemorrhaging teams to other conferences and the WAC gave McNeese a phone call

Apparently Southeastern fired him for performance and not for raw-dogging an intern or something.

He won pretty consistently with the occasional postseason appearance. How much better do they think they can do?

Lake Charles has a lot of high school talent and is only an hour away from Lafayette which has a lot of talent as well. He’s also a lot closer to Texas.

Opposite of what I heard. Guy I know who is pretty well connected to SLU told me he knew a week before it was announced that Riser would be fired. He also said it had to do with some off the field inside the locker room stuff but he didn't know the specifics. I would tend to believe this over job performance when you consider that they had just extended his contract, but who really knows.
