I agree I just think there is way more value in a SP than a closer.

Dude was hitting 102 on his fastballs.

That slider after 102 heat is sick.

Check WS winners over the past 20 years.

It's a job a lot pitchers can do.

Giants - Sergio Romo was a setup guy that become the closer.
Cardinals - Fernando Salas?
Giants - Brian Wilson was good for a 2-3 year span, now unemployed
Yankees - Obviously Mo is awesome
Phillies - Lidge was good for a couple of years.
Red Sox - Papelbon is probably the 2nd best on this list and his career isn't mindblowing
Cardinals - Jason Isringhausen, he was solid.
White Sox - Dustin Hermanson, ha
Red Sox - Keith Foulke
Marlins - Braden Looper

That's the last decade and there's one, maybe two actually elite pitchers on the list.

Most of those guys are garbage.

Foulke, Izzy, Papelborn have all been considered top tier closers for several years in past

Wilson was considered a top tier closer and coming off shoulder injury

Lidge has had seasons of mediocreness mixed in with dominance

Romo has a chance to be next set up man to good/great closer

Mo we all know

Also wasn't Jenks closer for White Sox?

The rest I have nothing to say about although Looper was a really good closer for a few years until STL moved him into the rotation

Hermanson closed the year they won the WS.

But of those guys mentioned, their peaks of dominance last about 3 years before they fade into utter oblivion other than Papelbon and Mo.

I'm just of the opinion that a closer's total worth is about 60 total innings on a year, and that's if they get in the game a ton. That's 10 decent starts.

I think it's more important to just have a bunch of good arms on the back end.

But Jenks recorded all World Series saves correct?

I think closers value is overrated but I imagine the Indians wish they had a closer with a stronger mental state, they may have a championship banner.

He got 2.

Mark Buehrle got 1.

Brad Lidge was also the LP in two of the four losses.

Looking at it now,
Jenks blew save in game 2 and Lidge was in a non-save situation when he gave up home run

Hermanson blew save in game 3
Jenks save in game 4, Lidge took loss in nonsave situation again

Both of Lidge's losses came in a tie game where he allowed go ahead run.

Buerhle got the save in the 14 inning game Hermanson blew save in

That series pretty much proves my point of the worth of closers.
