Did you people just start watching basketball?

Younger savvy fans today have greater access to a vast library of basketball knowledge, footage, and statistics.

You don't have to have lived through an era to evaluate it, especially talking about the 80s onward.

Then your memory must be fading. The only thing that made those defenses tough were getting away with big hits under the rim. There was zero on the ball defense and everyone stood straight up half the time with their hands by their sides.

Curry's game is almost exclusively from behind the arc. He would have destroyed teams back in the day if they played off him.

That's the issue, it's the "everything was better back in my day." thing.

There's no chance you can watch a Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals from the late 80s and say with a straight face that those defenses could hold Curry in check better than defenses of today.

Well there's the flip side to that. We're so far removed from MJ's hey day that now people forget how dominant he was.

Both sides are impossible to reason with.

So MJ chose to be a much worse 3 pt shooter?

I wish he WASN'T as good as he is. It'd be better for my team. As much success as San Antonio has had the past 20 years or so, NO Spurs team has ever started as hot as this year's Spurs team. And that's while integrating a major new contributor on the fly. And that's still getting overshadowed by the whirlwind of terror that is Curry-led GSW.

The numbers and team results command my respect and admiration. If you think that's "too far," idk what to tell you.

If he had some of todays analytics he would be a much better 3pt shooter than Steph.

Considering all of the 'rings' arguments and the "MJ would have done this/would have never done that" talk, I don't know about that.

Is the three point game not much more heavily emphasized in today's game? People didn't really shoot them back then close to the volume that we see today. There's a reason for that.

Thanks to analytics, we now know that the long two-point shot is one of the worst shots you can take in the NBA. No one knew this back when MJ played. Thus, players were not coached to take the three-pointer instead of the long two. Research, knowledge has changed the way they play the game.
