There’s one poster on here who is against shot clocks in HS basketball... you know who you are, care to defend that?

Blowout

Rarely does a team out score an opponent by 50%

That’s a high scoring game in football compared to what 6-4 is in basketball

That’s an embarrassment to the sport

If you are the coach of a team and the only chance you have for your team to win is go four corners and hold the ball you wouldn’t do it?

maybe, and then they’d put shot clocks in Louisiana the very next season and I’d be the reason

No

Obviously the other team thought that and lost. Pretty stupid

St. John of Plaquemine used this very strategy back in the early 80s with varying degrees of success. I recall games routinely ending with scores such as 8-6.

With the ability to run 4 corners and no shot clock, they did what they felt necessary to be competitive. You were hard pressed to see 4 total FGs attempted between both teams in a single quarter. Did I agree with those tactics? No. But that was probably their only shot at beating teams like Southern Lab and U-High at that time.

That Alabama HS playoff result proves that there is nothing new under the sun.

The problem with the HS shot clock is that most schools have a hard time already finding someone competent to keep the book and the scoreboard. Adding another position to the scores table would be a stretch for some

the shot clock operator would be part of the officiating crew

maybe individual classifications should add it, such as all 5A schools since they're most likely to afford it

basically all you need is a cheap monitor behind each basket that is controlled by mirroring from a smartphone app

Georgia is phasing in a 30 second shot clock for HS basketball over 3 seasons.

2020-21- used only in holiday tournaments and showcase events

2021-22- used only for region games and the region tournament if approved by the region schools

2022-23- used in all GHSA games including the state playoffs.

A win, is a win, is a win....all that is necessary is to outscore the opponents.
