I guarantee that they still aren't thrilled about the figure considering they sell out close to 82 games a year. The cap would help the average player, but stars sell.. Can't remember the last time I said I was going to watch Juan Uribe. Why would they limit the max potential of earnings for the Trouts and Harper's of the sport?

Cause unions are supposed to look out for the entire group and not just the top guys.

The theory is that the larger the contracts for top players will rise all contracts. The problem is the young players contracts are artificially low.

In a perfect world, I agree with you. Even with a cap, the disparity is huge between number 1 and 53 on the NFL roster. It could just lead to 4-5 players taking up 30-40% of the cap and then the remaining 20 players fighting over 60%. At least in baseball, teams can bid for what you're worth.

What would the union have to give up in order to get 4 year rookie contracts like NBA or NFL?

Absolutely no salary cap, they should raise the minimum salary by a lot. It comes in waves. The ridiculous free agent class of 2018 will set the new standards for contracts.

This is a good idea

I could be wrong but with the minor league system being the way it is I don't think it would ever happen, logistical nightmare. How do you handle a player who spends 1week a season in the majors? This is why they have the service time system

Luxury tax punishes high salary teams but they can't force teams to spend money on payroll, its ridiculous that a sport which made 9.5 billion in revenue and local tv contracts for teams that go into 9 figures yearly has teams spending less than 75 million in salary

Give me one good reason why teams like the Astros should have team salary that high when they don't have to currently and be competitive?

Also, it's very apparent the Astros were not just not spending money, they were just reallocating it to their scouting avenues to bolster their draft and international presence. A salary floor would not allow for such reallocation and would only serve to inflate salaries.

No. Salary caps kill fandom. I hate it when you build a great team that could be great for years but the salary cap crap.forces you to only keep a couple of good players and constantly turn over players. NO.

Should MLB players agree to a Salary Cap? by LokoMoko MLB players get 43% of revenue as opposed to 47% for nfl players and 49-51% for nba players

100% of NFLs drafted players count as player revenue, 0 % of MLB drafted players count.

The parity has more to do with the randomness of the sports, pitchers playing every 5 games, hitters parks and pitchers parks, etc

You know they play 162 games, right?
