I hate clichés like "defense is all heart and effort" or its all "want to" that is simply false. Effort and heart can keep you from being as abysmal as Luka but it is just one part of being a great defender. I'd say being a great defender is more about god given attributes than offense is. You can develop a lot offensive skill through reps/coaching/hard work. Good to great defenders need length, height, foot speed, explosive movement, etc. No amount of effort or heart can give you those things. I'm not trying to downplay effort as good defenders need that too but when people reduce defense to just "want to" its laughable.
