often like once maybe a game often? TD's are like 95% of the time the main objective. even when you want to try and get the FG, you'd still rather take the TD if its available to you, you just don't want to force the issue. playing for the FG is deemed "playing safe"

It's the most popular sport in the world because most of the world is too poor to support/follow/play other sports.

In countries where they can follow other sports, they do. baseball in Japan and Korea, basketball in China, Cricket in India, hockey in Russia, hockey, football, and basketball in Canada, the list goes on...

MLS Cup 2009 drew from a .9 to a 1.1 last year on ESPN (about a millionish people) up against a Bears/Steelers Sunday night game. Spanish language viewership usually adds about 30% to that. (Too lazy to look that up.)

I thought the MLS Cup was on ABC (normally it is, isn't it?) so I didn't count that.

I hate seeing ties...there should always be penalty kicks to decide matches.

India is poor as hell. It was confusing that you put them in your list of countries wealthy enough to enjoy the luxuries of other sports.

I just think people can't get around each game being a part of something bigger. Maybe a winner isn't determined on that day, but it all adds up to something. In the Premier League, there are plenty of ties, but in the end it still results in teams being better than other teams. In the WC cup, ties occur, but it goes into figuring out the winners of the cup. The only time I think being pissed about a tie is valid is during friendlies. I know they don't mean anything, but at least have a winner in a match that means nothing.

No, it's not. FGs are determined by down, distance, wind, score, range of your kicker, etc. Like I said. It's complicated. Soccer fans like simple.

Participation, not TV viewing.
Soccer is very popular in the US with participation among kids. Not TV viewing or venue attendance.

The only thing I want to change about soccer is the diving and whining figs and the refs that let them get away with it.

man you're really reaching to prove your point. you would ALWAYS take a TD over a FG.

OK, now I realize that I'm talking to a retarded person. Allow me to get more simple for you.

If it's 4th and 10 at the 30 of your opponent. You kick a field goal. Do you understand any of that?

It is totally possible to continue trying to get a TD. It's not as if the defensive team is negotiating with you:

Defense: "Well, would you like to have a TD or a FG?"

Offense: "We'll take the TD and purposely miss the extra point if you promise to punt on third down."

venue attendance

Weird.

In the past two years, I've been to 5 soccer games in person in the US.

The only one that had attendance less than 50K was in a stadium that seated 27K. It had..... 27K.

I'm shocked at how those 75,000 - 80,000 cardboard cutouts in Reliant Stadium looked JUST liked real people.

The HS soccer games here in La. usually draw 20 or 30 people. Parents.
We had a professional soccer team start up here in Shreveport called the Lions. They drew crowds of 30 or 40 on a good night.
Centenary's college soccer teams sometimes get up to 50....all students with free passes.

So, first you totaled ALL the points scored.

Then you gave 6 points for a TD, which, with a 99% percentage of extra points made is really 7 points per TD.

Then you divided the 6 points for TDs (the football equivalent of a soccer goal) into ALL the points scored to show that scoring TDs actually happens 4 times as much as a goals in a soccer game.

I'm guessing you helped count votes in Florida in 2000 or helped register voters in Chicago if you call that "honest."

wow, and im the retarded person. i didn't know that we were arguing specific situations during these sports. i thought we were arguing the main goal is to score. not the goal of a situation such as 4th and 30 from your own 20 facing a 50mph head wind. point is, you want to score a TD every position in football just like scoring a goal is the point of each position in soccer. THATS what we're arguing, not situations

even still in this situation, they have these things called FAKES which can lead to a TD which you'd STILL rather have than a FG.

Everyone here with a 3rd grade education understands the math. If you don't, please don't have children.
