People hate on her because she is an outspoken black woman that has dominated a white sport while having some temper tantrums along the way. Meanwhile the majority of the people in this thread probably don't have an athletic bone in their bodies

Nick Kyrgios can berate refs, break rackets, cuss at people, talk trash about the Big 3 while winning nothing & disrespect the game on the regular and no threads are made about him. Pure comedy.

But comparing Mac to williams for what they did for the game also doesn’t make sense
Love her or hate her, Williams increased viewership of women’s tennis a huge amount while she re-wrote the record books
Johnny Mac was a great player but not really comparable to Williams in their respective divisions

I’ll have to disagree. Women’s was at its best when they had some cuties: Hingis and Sharapova. And the competition was even. I don’t know a person alive who started watching because of SW. Most women care more about football then any other women’s sports combined
you don’t think Johnny Mac brought non tennis fans out? And his push for Davis Cup? He’s did far more for tennis than SW.
And SWs antics do not inspire a casual viewer to go out and watch her.

Serena & Venus were at the forefront of getting equal prize money for this past generation along with everything that Billie Jean King did and the sisters literally brought African Americans into watching tennis kind of like that Tiger Woods fella did. They have been around since the late 90s and had some of the highest watched matches during their primes. But yeah nobody ever started watching tennis because of Serena

I don't believe in the seperation of sports at any level after grade school. If women or trans want to compete, then let them make a regular team. If you notice, no "mens" team uses that designation and openly allow any gender if they could compete on that level. Having women leagues or divisions is sexist..
