Not sure they are elite myself, but I was going by the power rankings, so based on that, they are right on that fringe. I still don't think it's a bad loss.
In your mind, would losing to Chi @ Chi or losing to Portland @ home be a worse loss?
Posted on 3/10/14 at 1:47 pm to Buckeye06
Portland would have been a much worse loss. By beating them we are up 3 games on them for the top 4 seed bc of tie breakers, had we lost to them we would be tied for the 3rd seed.

I more meant in a vacuum, not based on which conference they are in.
Do you think Portland is that much better than Chicago?

If the Rockets lost to Portland, both teams would be tied but Portland would be the 3rd seed because they'd hold the tie-breaker.

Yea I think Portland would win a 7 game series v Chicago in 6 games, I'd think Houston would beat them in 5.

I didn't get around to looking at the tiebreakers, but it would've been a bad bad loss to lose that one last night.
eta looks like it would've came down to this

::(5) Better winning percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position).

I don't know... since January 1st, Chicago has had the 6th best record in the NBA.
Better than the Heat, Thunder, Warriors, Pacers, Blazers, etc.
They are a different team than they were earlier in the season. They are balling right now.

Oh. Last night they said on the broadcast that the tie-breaker would be whoever had the best record in the West.
And the Rockets and Blazers had identical records against Western Conference teams before the game. So whoever won would have a 1-game better record in the West.
So if the Blazers won, they would have had a better record in the West.

Who cares about elite? I don't even think Houston is elite. Chicago is a good team, 21-8 since 1/1 I believe, and the #1 ranked defensive team in the NBA.

The play in the east too. Houston is 20-3 vs the East, the Bulls are 10-14 vs the West. They play tough every night but aren't talented enough to be considered elite.

When you get to the last 20 games of the season and you're fighting for playoff position any loss to a team clearly not as good as you are is a bad loss. Chicago is clearly not as good as Houston is.

But to dismiss Chicago completely is what you're doing. And to reiterate the fact that they're playing better, since 1/1 they've beaten Miami, Dallas, GS, Phoenix, and San Antonio.
This is a good team that slows the pace of the game, plays great defense, and hits the boards. Things that Houston doesn't match up well with. Noah has been on a tear lately, and tends to play well against Howard.

I don't think anyone is dismissing them completely. Look at the next 3 games. That is the one that we should win and would suck if we lost. The games against OKC and Miami would be considered great wins but I am not counting on them. Losing to Chicago would not be a good loss.

No loss is a good loss. But with OKC tuesday, travel to chicago for thursday, I wouldn't be surprised with the travel and Chicago's improved play that Houston loses an 88-82 type game.

Out of the 3, it's the most winnable. OKC is the most important. If we beat them, we could tie the series on our home court in a few weeks. Losing would mean they take the series.

They are missing Perkins and Sefolosha. Their 2 best defenders. Perkins usually shuts Dwight down, and he won't be playing.
OKC has been sucking arse without those two, believe it or not.
The Rockets may catch them at the right time.

I don't like the OKC matchup at all. They just lost to the Lakers, the #1 seed is slipping away. Beverley vs Westbrook for the first time this season, so he'll be motivated. Durant picks on TJ. Idk.
Posted on 3/10/14 at 2:47 pm to B1rdman15
Parsons will be guarding Durant.

is this where I parked my car.
how bout them bulls?
Noah is playing out of his mind lately and Butler is getting more aggressive every game.
DJ is a decent pace PG and Heinrich is the anti DJ.
Bulls D will keep them in a lot of games.

Yeah I agree. They will be fired up. Their role players always play big against us, too. I think we are closing the gap with them but we're coming off 3 big home wins and everyone is singing our praises against a team at their place who are coming off an embarrassing loss. I think they will be ready.
