So we're just ignoring all the rules about a recovery after the play was blown dead and it wasn't called a fumble, just to make sure the game is tied.

I feel like 2-point plays should be treated like 4th downs, where the player who fumbles is the only offensive player allowed to recover the fumble and advance the ball.

Feel like that rule change is coming.

Isn’t the spirit of that rule so that players don’t intentionally fumble the ball forward in hopes that one of their teammates recovers it?

That definitely wasn’t the case in this play.
