The old players played in an era with a much more shallow talent pool. The NBA today is a world game where kids are being ranked and groomed from Elementary School age to make it to the league.
The athleticism and skill level are leaps and bounds better than it was was 25 or 30 years ago.
This is the era of the best shooters of All-time, the best ball handlers of All-time, 7ft wing players with guard ball handling and shooting ability.
The post Jordan era has produced Dirk, Manu, Tony Parker, Giannis, Embid etc. International stars.
This has been the most skilled era of Basketball ever and LeBron has been the best player of this era for at least 12 years.

This is where the confusion occurs. You compare players vs their peers for best player. You compare all time for skill sets.
