Duke could have had almost any sitting head coach in the country and they hire an assistant

NC State is running them out of the gym

It would be like LSU hiring a coordinator……like Archer

It is coach K's nephew

I was literally just making a thread on how much time do they give him. He looks like a bad coach every time I see them.

Has a Coach K assistant ever been a good head coach for any length of time?

Mike Brey at ND
Tommy Amaker at Harvard

Mike Brey. Amaker has been pretty good at Harvard but nothing special in big jobs.

Maybe Mr. K shouldnt have blocked Duke from hiring Tommy Amaker.

Absolutely baffling what Duke and North Carolina did to replace their legendary coaches.

Hubert at least has some age to him and has been around the block plus an assistant there for a decade. Scheyer is real young for a job that big.

North Carolina’s biggest problem the last few hers has been getting destroyed in recruiting, and Davis was in charge of recruiting for basically that entire time.

its a scandal that he got the job to begin with. no experience and wasn't even that good as a player.

and is a year removed from a run to the championship game

Coach K was Duke. Duke will be Wake Forest/Georgia Tech level program in a few years.

Duke was in the national title game with Bill Foster 3 seasons before K got there and made 3 Final Four trips in the ‘60s with Vic Bubas.
Duke will probably slip some, but if they have a competent head coach (jury out on Scheyer), they will still be a competitive program and probably be a little bit better than a current-day Wake or Ga Tech.

Did anybody actually think Scheyer was a good hire? He’s going to bring them down a lot in the next 2 or 3 years. And if Duke doesn’t get their next hire right they’ll turn into a mediocre program playing in one of the worst arenas in the country. It’s going to be great seeing them turn into Tulane.

just like following Satan at Bama, following Coach K at Duke is an impossible job. Its impossible to follow HOF coaches at pretty much any school or pro franchise. You can make a list of historically successful coaches, and when they were gone, the teams were not as good. Some suffering for decades.
