"Ryan Day is still on third" What's that a reference to?

Not sure, but I love any shot taken at Ryan Day

ETA: think it’s in reference to Harbaugh after OSU win saying some people are born on third base and think they’ve hit a triple.

Double edged dig that Day inherited a stocked program while Harbaugh had to build on over years of hard work. Partial dig at Day and partially stroking his own ego

I'm not a big Harbaugh fan, but he has a point here. Pretty good dig.

except Harbaugh screwed it up and said "standing on third base" instead of "born on 3rd base"

Can someone explain what it even means or references?

Harbaugh started his coaching career as a QB coach in the NFL.

Day starter his coaching career as a TE coach in New Hampshire.

Day has pretty clearly started lower than Harbaugh.

exactly,

Harbaughs dad was an assistant at Michigan.
Harbaugh is the one born on 3rd base.
He's a DB

He’s probably referring to the talent Day walked into at Ohio State.

Harbaugh is a fricking idiot. Day certainly had to bust his arse to get to where he’s at (his dad killed himself when Day was 8 years old). Meanwhile Harbaugh grew up with a father who coached college football.

Guy wins his first game in 7 years on the job and immediately starts running his mouth.

Day said they'd hang 100 on them last year too.

This was said in a team meeting after Harbaugh accused Ohio State of cheating in a conference wide call during the 2020 Big Ten season cancelling debacle.

Harbaugh has won everywhere he has been as a head coach and progressively went through the ranks. Day has never been a head coach anywhere else other than inheriting Urban Meyer's talent at OSU

Some pedantic fricksticks in this thread.

Day was handed a Ferrari by Urbs. That is what the comment was about. Not his fricking family life growing up.

No it doesn't.
Michigan wasn't a mess when he got there.
Took him 7 years to finally win one game vs OSU.

Tressel took over Ohio State after Cooper went 2-10-1 vs Michigan, Tressel beat Michigan his first year and had a 9-1 record vs Michigan.
