Broke my heart as a kid when Houston traded him. He was my favorite.

Me and my dad were fans also. Actually, Rusty was my dad's favorite player.

Sad day.

2700 hits and 300 HRs is definitely Hall of Very Good.

First autograph I ever got at a baseball game as a kid. I got his and Ron Leflore's that day.

One of the the greatest baseball players ever from New Orleans.

Legend at Jesuit, a school full of legends.

He should be in the baseball Hall of Fame. He's one of like 3 players ever to hit a homer in his teens and in his 40's and he's the only player in baseball history with 500+ hits for 4 different teams.

He would have hit a LOT more homers had he not played his first 7 seasons in Houston.

RIP, Rusty

He was a very underrated player who did a lot of charity work. I didn’t realize he was fairly close to 3000 hits. RIP.

My father was talking about watching him play at Kirsch Rooney. My dad was a few years older and played at Warren Easton. There was a player for Jesuit that some scouts were coming to look at and Rusty hit home run that my father described as a monster as well. May have been the same game.
