I listened to both and thought they were okay not great, but that's to be expected with the massively long layoff.

Vintage SVP Russillo was just so good I was willing to bet on them improving.

You could tell they were rusty together. SVP Been out the radio game a while now. Also one of them they werent together for. Which is hard for chemistry.

Im sure it would have been way better when football came around.

Isn't it both NFL and college football? Isn't that why it's call Dual Threat?

They said it will not just be football. It will be more of a mix between the current duel threat and his old ESPN pod.

And the more I think about it, I think they knew it and that's what probably led them to make the choice to not continue.

Because if you think about it, Russillo knew when his ESPN contract would be up, and him and Simmons had to be working on this deal for some time. So you get out there and lay out plans to do a regular thing with SVP knowing you won't be with ESPN much longer, but since it's only a podcast, that shouldn't make too much of a difference. But after doing 2 of them, it was probably clear to them that they would be forcing this and maybe it was a good idea to move on. At least for the time being.

I think they would have eventually found their stride, but the Russillo/Simmons dynamic is killing it right now and it probably makes more sense to focus on the now instead of trying to revive the good old days.

This was a passion project by the two of them. They still talk pretty regularly and Russillo considers SVP one of his best friends. It was a fun idea that just didn't pan out.

Russillo just tweeted he'll do a few more podcasts for ESPN before the month is over, including 1 more with SVP that should be out this week.
