Yep!

And not because of Wilson, but because it will further limit their ability to keep their top players.

RW won the job over Flynn and the reaction. There is a hatred for him here since.

I was just pointing out irrefutable facts about QB's getting a big day AFTER winning a super bowl and never winning another because they then take up too much cap room. Since the era of big money QB contracts in the last 15 years, only Peyton Manning won a super bowl, and that was due to a defense and running game playing lights out during the playoffs out of nowhere.

I don't really care about LSU players after they leave LSU and I am not a Saints fan. You cannot deny the facts that one player taking up that much cap room is hugely detrimental to the team's overall success come playoff time.

ETA: For what it's worth, I actually like Russell Wilson. He is the perfect combination of humility and leader I want in a QB - the exact opposite of a Cam Newton or RG3 or Jay Cutler. I just think, like Brady his first 5 years, he gets way more credit than he deserves since he has the benefit of a historically all-time great defense, possibly the best running back in the league, and a very good coaching staff.

@SI_PeterKing The deal averages $21.9-miilion a year, a smidge less than top deal in football, Aaron Rodgers’ $22-million per

Lol

These negotiations must be hysterical. I agree they can't let him walk but damn.

Aaron Rodgers is vastly underpaid more than Russell Wilson is overpaid IMO. Rodgers should be making $30-35 million a year.

Wilson, Lynch, Graham, Bennett, Avril, Wright, Chancellor, Thomas, Sherman are all locked up through 2017. I'll take that core of players

That's a matter of opinion. What you can't deny are the results they've produced under his leadership. Why mess with it?

Uh huh.

You really think he could carry a team like Luck, Rodgers, Brees, etc. do? There have been games in which he has thrown for barely over 100 yds and Seahawks have still easily won due to that defense and Lynch. If guys like Brees, Luck, or others had bad games their teams would be crushed.

No, he's worth that contract. Excellent talent. You pay to keep a franchise QB.

The leaps of logic some of you people make is quite impressive.

Well if he isn't as good as them than he doesn't deserve the type of the money that they're getting. If you think he deserves this much money than you must think that he's one the same level they are.

And the NFC championship where he threw four or five. I still get physically ill thinking about that game.

No, not necessarily.

I don't think RW is on the same level talent-wise as Luck or Rodgers. I do know that he works well within their system. There is no guarantee that a more talented player could come in and replicate his results.

We've seen too many examples of QBs with exceptional talent that fall flat in the NFL. Obviously there's more to playing the position than talent. He runs their system well, he's a known value.

Seahawks had no option but to pay him. A competent QB is one of the most scarce resources in all of sports.

He isn't worth it, but comparing it to Rogers, who signed a deal what, two or three years ago, is kinda unfair, it leaves out inflation.

IMO they're overpaying by 3-4m a season. They're only betting that he'll improve slightly to make him actually worth the value of his contract. You don't have to be an all pro every year to be worth $18m a season as a QB.
