Propst, the highly successful former coach at Hoover High School and several other schools in Alabama, was at the center of a 64-page deposition made public in Georgia on Tuesday. Propst is now head coach at Valdosta High School, historically among the more successful programs in the country.

quote:

In the deposition, Valdosta Touchdown Club director Michael Nelson accuses Propst of, among other things, taking funds meant to pay for stadium advertising for personal use, instructing Nelson to raise money to pay rent for a pair of high-profile quarterback transfers and interfering in the school’s coaching search. The deposition is part of a lawsuit brought by former Valdosta coach Alan Rodemaker, who is suing the school board for wrongful termination.

One of the two quarterbacks named in the deposition is Jake Garcia, who transferred to Valdosta from a California school but was later declared ineligible (Garcia landed at Grayson High School in Loganville and signed with Miami in December). The other is Amari Jones, a Class of 2022 prospect who transferred to Valdosta from Atlanta’s Carver High School.

It's always something

quote:

Valdosta City Schools board members voted 5-3 not to renew the contract of football coach Rush Propst on Tuesday night, ending a tumultuous one-year tenure marked by some of the severest sanctions ever levied on a school by the Georgia High School Association.

This is ridiculous for a high school. It's fricking high school. I couldn't imagine being a grown man wasting money on high school shite.

Read the deposition that's linked in the article and it's even crazier than just Rush Propst. The witness alleges that multiple people associated with Valdosta's football program were creating fake companies and calling businesses to defraud them of advertising revenue. He claims that Rush Propst was involved in this because he had the local Winn Dixie manager write him a personal check for a sign advertisement at the stadium (which apparently wasn't honored). This is ridiculous.

The vast majority of high schools in the south have booster clubs, even smaller schools. Most high school football funding for uniforms, equipment, technology, etc comes from the donation of businesses and high dollar boosters, not from taxes and the school system.

It's a drop in a bucket for most that donate, although programs like Valdosta have some crazy-high $$$ member levels

Propst, an Ohatchee native, coached at Ashville, Eufaula, Alba and Alma Bryant before rising to prominence at Hoover, where he won five state championships in nine years before he resigned under pressure amid numerous allegations of wrongdoing in 2007. He was hired the following year at Colquitt County, where he won 119 games in 11 seasons, including back-to-back state championships in 2014 and 2015.

That grifter sure can coach...

This.

I had 127 in my graduating class in 2009 and our booster club paid for a new turf field. They also paid for new jerseys every year. I always figured this was the norm.

Propst was supposed to be on Saban's staff at some point right? I can't remember fully but didn't his extramarital affair and 3 kids ruin that?

Had he not been caught, I'd venture to say that he'd have been a big time college coach by now and the entertainment of seeing his frick ups would be incredible especially if he coached at an SEC job

Steve Spurrier once said Rush Propst was one of the best offensive minds the game has ever seen.
