We are talking on a career total level here. So the best players in baseball just all happened to be on really good teams and hence they scored a bunch of runs?
Case in point. Joe Dimaggio didn't score 1500 runs???? I am baffled by this as much he was on base, and the multiple MVP's he won.

Judging anybody on one stat is a fools errand, but you could do a lot worse than runs scored, which is pretty underrated. It's even more underrated at a team level. We should absolutely rank offenses by runs scored. That's the whole point of offense - who cares how you get there?
Agreed on both points.

Runs scored is an absolutely retarded stat to use for individual players. Why not use OBP instead? It actually measures the players ability to get on base

He only played 13 seasons

Cause, on average, runs scored will factor in OBP and your ability to run the bases. Like Baloo said its just one stat of many that should be used.

Ok. I understand this, But look at the teams he was on??? Think about it.

Runs also measure the effectiveness of the batters on your team and I doubt base running actually accounts for that many of the runs scored. I'd rather have somebody who is not a good base runner but can get on base often

He avg 130 runs a year. The fact he only stole 30 bases is more amazing, John Kruk has almost twice that.

If you bat in front of a really good player you will get a lot more strikes and good pitches to hit.

He averaged 130 runs per 162 games, not per season.

OK. But I agree with your OP. Runs scored is one of the most important stats in MLB.

How are RBI's "in the players control" except in the case of a HR?
Didn't say they were. I'd consider them exactly the same.

I still haven't seen a good argument for RBIs being a better stat than Runs.
One relies on players to hit you in, the other relies on players ahead of you to get on base.
