Because they should be trying to build the best team possible. That should be the only goal.
I get why the Pels are mad, and I'm not saying the Lakers would ultimately have the best offer. But the only thing should be putting the Pels franchise in the best place possible to win a title. Don't screw your organization and fans over emotions. Try to get the best roster.

The Celtics, Knicks, Raptors, Nuggets, Bulls, Nets, Sixers, Clippers, and Hawks can all put together a better package than the Lakers and that’s just off the top of my head.
