re: “Rockets’ Game 1 ref rage rooted in extensive Warriors research”

I’m sure there were calls missed against GSW, but no one has self reported any so who knows the quantity.

the 29 other NBA teams don't run to a microphone and tell the world how the NBA refs have self reported missed calls. so, we have no idea how many calls the NBA refs missed for the other 29 teams. Because, those 29 teams don't go running to the media to cry after they lose.

Every team in the league would have run to the microphone if a team intentionally crowded the landing space of their superstar MVP and got 0 whistles. Not so long ago, there would have been retaliation.

You have been living under a rock if you think the Rockets are the only team to complain about officiating. I even referenced the Nets owner in my post.
Also, how'd you feel about Sean running to the microphone after the self-reporting call he received from Riveron after the NFC Championship game? Was that acceptable or do your rules only apply to the Rockets?

quote:I didn't like it then and still don't. It made Sean seem like a brat and made the NFL look stupid. Just like this makes the Rockets look petty and the NBA look stupid.

Sean Payton's play calling was more to blame for the Saints loss than the bad call. And the defense couldnt get a stop. And the OL and Brees folded in overtime.
And the Rockets didn't play well enough to win. The refs didn't lose them game 7 last year or game 1 this year.

Sean Payton’s playcalling was good enough to win. The defense was good enough to win. But for the most egregious call in NFL playoff history, there is no overtime. And that’s why that argument is stupid.

bullshite. A break here or there (like a call perhaps) and the game is completely different. They absolutely played well enough to win.

We must not have watched the same game............

And the Rockets didn't play well enough to win.
It was a virtual stalemate. A few calls one was or the other certainly could have been the deciding factor in the game.
And the thing is, it’s not the first time something like this has happened with Golden State, and specifically when they play the Rockets.
Might I remind you, the refs didn’t call this out of bounds against the Warriors against the Rockets in a tied game with under 30 seconds left:
The Warriors were allowed to keep the ball and they ended up scoring. If it wasn’t for James Harden hitting the game-winning last-second 3-pointer, the refs would have cost them that game too.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I honestly cringe when i hear this argument. With the amount of money flowing into professional sports, I don't think mediocrity is acceptable. Payton put his team in a position to win at the end of the game. The officials took it away with ineptitude and suffered no public consequences. Sure the team could have played better. The rams could have played better too. The officiating, which is supposed to enforce rules fairly, played a major (and incorrect) role in the outcome.
Likewise, the Rockets put themselves in a position to win yesterday in spite of poor shooting. From what it appears, the officials dealt them an unfair playing field. The argument of "just make your shots and this doesn't matter" is hollow. They made enough shots. The officials tilted the game the other way.
The one thing I can agree with is the NBA and NFL looking stupid in all of this. If they don't want to look stupid, they can fix the root of the problem. Fans can only take so much BS before they stop watching.

There’s no way that’s real? Did that really happen and GSW retained possession?

That happened in a regular season game this year. Not yesterday. Yes, GSW retained possession.

People have a propensity to defend complete piles of dogshit in every aspect of life because it’s what they like and want to be vindicated.
I just don’t understand why people don’t want better. Even if you are passionate about something enough that you are still going to participate in some capacity, that doesn’t mean you can’t still make a difference. All the tiny, singular middle fingers add up eventually.

I’ve thought about it, and I think it has to do with the fact that he’s so predictable. His game is robotic. He either:
Shoots a step-back 3
Drives in for a lay-up
Drives in for a floater
Drives in and passes over the top to Capela
Drives in and kicks out
Now, he’s really really good so he has a ton of success playing like that. But I think it makes it easier for teams to game plan for when they know exactly what he’s gonna do and practice their defense specifically to limit one player. During the regular season teams don’t change their game plans too much. During the playoffs they adjust and practice their defense based on the matchup.
Other players are more versatile in the ways they score and it’s harder to predict.
That’s my honest answer even if I think y’all exaggerate his playoff issues.

oh is this where we're going to pretend like missed calls in close games dont ever go in the rockets favor?
3 point game with less than a minute left. not only did they not call the travel, they gave harden 3 free throws for it.

No that’s a travel and I’ve never denied it was a travel.

and nobody denied durant was out of bounds either. but you still posted it?

Oh come on.
We all love that gif but it’s the VERY extreme of what his step back is.
That’s probably the only time he did that all year.

Wow that’s one of the worst blown calls I’ve ever seen in the NBA. Hes practically out of
bounds the entire clip and even tightroping the out of bounds line (or in this case the inbounds line) to draw attention to how out of bounds he is.

Dang.
That was a solid response(not that you don’t usually have them) that I think I agree with.
