Apparently Morey & the Rockets have spent quite a bit of time researching how the refs are out to get them (and moreover benefit the Warriors):

quote:

No, this was about the NBA’s most analytically minded organization deciding long ago that all the data in this heavy-hitter matchup proves their point: The Warriors, as they see it, are getting the kind of officiating edge that simply must be stopped. And Game 1 – which was refereed by Zarba, Josh Tiven and Courtney Kirkland – confirmed their fears that this playoff battle with the Warriors might be just as painful as the last when it comes to the officiating.

quote:

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the Rockets have been making a data-driven case with the NBA for quite some time that these Super Team Warriors are getting a major officiating advantage in these heavy-hitter matchups. And of all the specific examples that have been discussed with league officials, none has left them more suspect of the system than the 2018 Western Conference Finals. This series opener, more than anything, was salt being poured directly into that Rockets wound.

quote:

When that series ended nearly a year ago, the Rockets’ research had just begun. They secured the play-by-play officiating reports from each game from the NBA – a service that is afforded to individual teams (teams aren’t given reports for other teams, which makes it hard to compare). These reports document the league’s verdict on correct calls and missed calls in the same way as the Last Two Minute reports that are shared publicly, with the obvious difference being that it accounts for all 48 minutes of action.

And after the Rockets went through every line, tallying all the missed calls for each team and adding up the potential points that were lost along the way, it wasn’t pretty: The Rockets, according to the sources, had a double-digit point deficit in six of the seven games (and a small edge in Game 2). In all, sources say, they were harmed to the tune of 93 points. Game 7 was the worst, the research showed, with the league-issued report indicating they should have had 18 more points. More specifically, two of the 27 consecutive missed 3-pointers that did them in were ruled to have been missed foul calls.

I’ve been alive 33 years and have never seen a more petty organization. And let’s not forget how many OTHER teams feel slighted by officiating when they face Harden & Co.

The Athletic article (it’s behind a paywall FYI)

Jesus this is like when Van Gundy flat out made up that a ref told him they were out to get Yao for moving screens (that were actually moving screens).

Houston is a fricking cry baby organization.

A James Harden led team (along with another flop master in CP3) crying about the refs is hypocrisy to the Nth degree.

The core of the Rockets offense is moving screens, pushoffs, and baiting for cheap fouls.

The irony here is top tier.

The bickering and pettiness that'll come from both sides of this series should be entertaining.

I'm not going to shed any tears for the King of Flop. That said, I could see where it might be frustrating to get calls all regular season, only to have the refs reverse course in the postseason -- especially for bitches like GSW.

I’m not claiming they’re wrong.

But this is the ultimate “pot calling the kettle black” situation. If the refs did exactly what the Rockets are hoping for...they too would be very hurt by it.

ETA: Also let me be clear: I absolutely hate Golden State and want the Rockets to win.

It's really funny that the article says they're mad about two non-calls in the midst of 27 straight missed 3's.

The Rockets and Harden rely a lot on getting foul calls. You get fewer 50/50 calls vs KD and Steph than you do vs Josh Okogie.

Welcome to reality. It tends to be worse in the playoffs because refs let more contact go. This is basically a complaint that the games aren't reffed the way you want. Having played basketball, you get told from junior high you have to adjust to the refs on close calls on a game to game basis.

Their brand of basketball is pure garbage and relies outside factors for success (whistle).

I hope for the NBA’s sake their brand doesn’t yield any titles, that will only cause more viewers to tune out and more teams to try it.

Chris Paul and Hardin’s stupid arse arm/leg flailing on three point attempts are gross, they are literally pulling out the mctwist from Tony hawk and kick mofos in the face and SCREAM like petulant toddlers they didn’t get a call.

frick Hardin and Paul

Again, one last time, the foul on the landing is a player safety issue. It is not a foul Bc of the affect it has on the shot. It’s a foul bc it is intended to discourage injuries in landings after the shot.

I mean those photos are hilarious. Draymond stays exactly where he was and harden throws his feet 4 feet forward.

He would have probably fallen down even if he didn't get hit because he kicked his feet so far out in front of him. I don't blame him for trying to get a competitive edge but that was so blatant.

Maybe he should have focused more on making the shot and less on pretending to be fouled.

I mean we experienced this as Braves’ fans.

Remember those times where Glavine and/or Maddux stopped getting those benefit of the doubt outside strikes? It wasn’t pretty.

does this "research" take into account the calls that were missed that would have benefited the Warriors? It states in there that teams only get a report of missed calls that would have helped them.

So, if Game 7 shows the Rockets should have had 18 more points, maybe the Warriors report shows the Warriors should have had 20 more points, or 16, or whatever? Without that other data, what they see is meaningless.

This might be the biggest bitch move in NBA history. It has to be up there.

On 2 of those 27 consecutive missed 3-pointers, we were fouled. THEY STOLE THE GAME FROM US!!!!!
