Why did they let him go for this scrub?

Bill Michaels Bill Michaels @Bill_Michaels What makes it worse for Bears fans, Robbie Gould was in the stands watching the game in person. Since the Bears cut him loose back in 2016, Gould is 82 of 85 in field goal attempts

Who would have thought kicking field goals 50 and 60 yards through the air in a place called the windy city would be difficult???

you know, there are reasons to release players other than how good they are?

It got the name "the windy city" for it's windy politics, not the actual wind.

Yes I have, but it's not the windiest city in the United States either. I learned about where the name "windy city" came from on a trip there.

ETA: I was just making sure he understood his joke wasn't as clever as he thought.

Yeah it's tough to make a long kick when it's tipped at the line.

It was tipped because he's a shitty kicker. He had no range last night as his 43 yard attempt barely cleared the cross bar on his iced attempt. He saw that and wanted to get some extra leg into it so he kicked it lower to get more distance. An NFL kicker shouldn't need to sacrifice height for distance on a 43 yard attempt.

In fairness his last 2 seasons have been the best of his career. Averaged 85.4% in CHI, his 2 seasons in SF have been 95.1% and 97.1%. And those last 2 seasons are on quite a lot of volume too as the Niners are a bad team in the redzone.

Fun Gould stat: in SF, he's missed more XPs (4) than FGs (3).
