don't think it's hyperbole to say that he was one of the most unique QB's we've seen in the past two decades,

He was Kentucky’s version of Joe mauer. Flat out stud in 3 sports. Check the tape

RIP Jared Lorenzen. Still remember watching him play back in the day. He was UK’s QB in the Bluegrass Miracle game and I remember him lighting it up. So sad he died so young.

Just 38 years old. That's just heartbreakingly sad. RIP big man

Yeah, dude was probably singlehandedly the reason we needed a "miracle" to win that game. A pretty remarkable athlete in many regards.

it sucks that two L’s are what he is most known for in the BlueGrass miracle and the absolutely insane 7ot game vs Arkansas

It’s legitimately heartbreaking. Especially knowing he was trying to lose the weight and get healthier for his son.

RIP Hefty Lefty..
I was following on Facebook..I knew about the weight problem but nothing else. Was he having problems in other areas of his life?

Found this:

Former NFL quarterback Jared Lorenzen died Wednesday at the age of 38 after battling kidney and heart issues as well as an infection, his family announced.

Lorenzen was fun to watch and all around a good guy. Prayers to his family. I thought he was doing better?

Fun guy to watch. Won’t lie and say I was a big fan but sucks to hear this regardless.

Hoping he is throwing some touchdowns in heaven.

I've only read stuff here and there on the Kentucky sites, but I've seen it mentioned a couple of times that he had developed sores on the inside of his legs (from rubbing during exercise) and contracted sepsis.

I've never read/heard of any suggestions that he had any substance abuse problems or anything along those lines.
