Tyson was not there mentally at all. Japan effed him up.

He was drinking his own koolaid. He will tell you himself he got his arse whooped.

I always thought it was strange how Tyson never fought Douglas in a rematch. I can’t think of another instance in the last 40, 50 years when a a fighter lost their belt to a heavy underdog in the middle of their career and then never fought a rematch against that fighter to get their belt back.

Buster had sparred with Mike, and familiar with Tyson.

Also, his mother had recently passed away. Douglas was motivated in this instance, which was normally a big issue during most of his career.

Tyson next fight after Douglas was against Tillman> Henry Tillman had defeated Tyson twice as amateurs, Tillman won Heavyweight gold in '84.

Buster Douglas next fight he lost the title to Holyfield, who Tyson was scheduled to fight prior to joining to jail.

But your right even after getting out of jail, a rematch surprisingly didn't happen. Douglas would win his next 6 fights after Holyfield, fight until '99. But his most noteworthy opponent was Lou Savarese, who knocked Buster out in the first round. Two years and one day later, Tyson would knock Savaraese out in the first round.

They didn't think to write a rematch clause into their fight contract, because I guess they never imagined needing it. Also Evander Holyfield was the mandatory #1 contender.

But it still could have been a nice money fight ( for both) that saw Tyson get his post prison redemption. The first & only man to ever beat Tyson & he gets a rematch. Media & Don King could have sold this easily.

Force Douglas into decent fighting $hape & print the money.

Yep, he let that stinking thinking in from outside influencers, Don King in Tyson's case. Cus and Kevin were his NY base.

Love Tyson today more than ever, and enjoy his Pod, as he's in a great place mentally(by his standards). But, bet large on Holyfield vs Tyson in Pt 2, and also viewed it as Christianity vs Islam.

Which I actually perceived as Holyfield being more sincere in his focus into this regard vs Tyson coming out of the can a new NOI convert, and being erratic and irrational.

He didn't get his arse whooped and dropped Buster in the 8th at the count of 9 and then the bell saved him.

It was a give and take fight, Tyson landed some huge blows but kudos to Buster for using that amazing jab to keep Tyson off him all night. Douglas just kept sticking out that arm holding it out there not allowing Tyson inside.

Makes me wonder what a prime Holmes might've done against Tyson instead of 128 years old Holmes.

We should have.

Holmes was almost 40 and had been out of boxing for two years and went 4 rounds against PRIME Tyson.

All because Holmes was still big and still had that jab.

Tyson was a diff fighter before cus died and he dumped his trainer. The Tyson after that would have lost to a lot of former champions. The klitchcho bros were taylor made to fight Tyson. Super tall guys that could jab him to death until a window comes open.

It's funny because none of the old guys were afraid of Tyson.

Holmes was like, I've been retired, I'll fight him, who cares?

Foreman during his comeback said he'd whoop him. He's a little punk.

It was only the up and coming guys who wilted.

Others came around later to the reasoning of the older guys like Lennox Lewis but it took Tyson getting exposed.

As Atlas (Tyson's former trainer with Cus said) so many guys lost the fight before it even began. He said Tyson was all about personna and fear; he'd drop a few tomato cans in the first round and people would think he could do that against great fighters.

Tyson ate some damn shots that fight. Almost after every clinch when the ref would go to break it up buster was peppering his arse. He had the night of his life. Still when Tyson dropped him with that upper cut the fight should’ve been over. Ref screwed that up. He should’ve got out of there with a win by the skin of his teeth but he didn’t. Still pisses me off everytime I watch it

If Tyson doesn't go to jail, he has to fight Bowe and probably Lewis years earlier. Maybe he fights Foreman too. His career is radically different then and the way he is judged. Now, he just doesn't have any great victories and its all what might have been..

Nope.

Tyson never could handle a good offensive jab and Buster used it a lot that night

. I'm thinking that Tyson's people saw a lot they didn't like about the Douglas matchup.
If not why not make this money fight after prison by getting revenge against the 1st & only man( at the time) to ever beat Mike Tyson?

Losing Cus, Robin Givens,etc.....The same old excuses for Tyson & not giving Douglas credit for a great fight & picking himself off the mat after a brutal knockdown.

If a Douglas win was just a fluke there was no reason for Tyson not to strongly pursue a rematch ( Pre or post prison).
