After Douglas lost to Holyfield, he quit boxing for awhile and got super fat. There was a big spread in SI and the guy was like 350#s. He came back years later. But that was well after Tyson was out of prison..

Thanks.

Didn't realize it was 6 years he was out of boxing. Thought it was more like 3 or 4. By the time Douglas returned( 1996) both had essentially been beaten by Holyfield so a rematch then was less appealing.

A nice little money fight nonetheless, but certainly not as appealing as I had tried to make it out in earlier posts.

I had forgot that after the fight, King and Tyson contested the fight. They said that the Douglas count was too long and Douglas should have lost. So Douglas wasn't given the belts right away. Tyson dropped the appeal a few days later. But Douglas never forgave him and didn't want to negotiate with his camp as a result..

Yeah but as we know once Douglas won that first fight he wasn’t beating Tyson a second go round

Tyson was a diff fighter before cus died and he dumped his trainer.

Tyson was fine after Cus died. The Trevor Berbick fight and a lot of other impressive wins were after Cus died. The problem was when he got rid of Rooney.

After Holyfield beat him and once Tyson knew he was screwed in the rematch in the first two rounds...he did everything he could to get out of that fight.

Ergo, the ear biting.

People say oh, he went crazy...no he didn't, that was calculated to be DQ'd so he wouldn't lose his aura and save face.

Once Tyson lost to Douglas and he couldn't put his next opponents down in the first few rounds he was like get me outta here.

I don't know why he's so revered. Maybe because we grew up with him. But to the old fighters, he lacked heart...wasn't that great skill wise, and was all about intimidation. Once that cover was blown by Douglas, he became an average adversary...that couldn't hurt big tall guys who knew how to box.

Oh Givens Kardashian’d his arse and even cucked him. That’s what the car wreck was about. Poor guy started getting twisted up by a lot of leeches, lack of support and direction post Cus. He didn’t actually dump Atlas, he tried to rape Atlas’ niece and Atlas wanted to kill him. That’s what broke them up.

Tyson was not there mentally at all. Japan effed him up.

That and the fact he was a 40-1 favorite in that fight so he thought he had it won before entering the ring.

Like already mentioned, Douglas had lost his mom not long before the fight and he was seriously motivated to do something big, and he did by KO'ing Tyson for the title.

Then lost it the next fight trying to defend the title.
