NFL teams saw projections for the 2018 salary cap during the league meetings Tuesday.
The NFL projects the cap to fall somewhere between $174.2 million and $178.1 million for next year, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The league will reveal the exact number before free agency begins in the spring.
It will mark the fourth consecutive year the salary cap has increased.
This year’s salary cap is $167 million.

What's crazy is that the Golden State Warriors have a payroll of $137 million and is expected to be in excess of $153 million next season. And that's for a team of only 15 players
NFL this year is dividing up $167 million between 53 players.

NBA is blowing up. The sale price of these teams is staggering. It's definitely a safer bet than buying an NFL team.

The NFL should go to something more along the lines of MLB’s pay structure.
The payrolls can be as much as they want but there is a luxury tax over the $195 million(NFL can pick their own number, ideally higher than the 195)

The tax threshold increased from $189 million to $195 million under the new labor contract, and rates were simplified to three levels: 20 percent for first-time payers, 30 percent for those owing for a second straight season and 50 percent for clubs paying three times in a row or more.

Ramifications to the cap from ratings dropping won't be felt for a little bit until TV contracts are up for renewal, and even with the drop this year, it won't be felt until after next season.
In the end, this could be problematic in the long term if the cap keeps going up and then quickly falls.
