What I wanted them to do was sign Encarnacion to replace Ortiz after he retired. But they didn't go after him and here we are.

Don't forget addition by way of just being healthier. We saw what Price did when he was at full strength.

Porcello coming off that shite year, hopefully he can return to being a strike thrower - we don't need a Cy Young from the three spot.

E-Rod, I would bet, has his best year as a pro.

A full year of Devers.

Healthy, slimmed-down, angry Hanley

Mookie returning to Mookie after hard luck year.

Benintendi taking another leap forward.

If any few of these happen, you're adding significant improvement to a 93 win team. If Martinez signs, which I think he will, it's going to be a fun year.

All good points. Excited to see a full season of Devers. And I think Mookie is our best all around player. I love that guy.

Watching a press conference now that was recorded earlier today. John Henry says I'm excited about the moves we've made this offseason. Reporter says such as? And he just stammers and he's like uhh well from my perspective I think we did a lot.

They were already paying Sandoval and Hanley... signing Encarnacion wouldn't have made sense financially. Nor would it have fit with their roster construct.

I don't expect anything but disappointment from Hanley. He's a "great when healthy but never healthy" type.

Pedroia is the same way, but at least he plays elite level defense.

I'd agree with you that financially it wouldn't have been good. Only because he wanted a 5/125 deal and he was 34 when he became a FA, but to say he wouldn't have worked in the roster is silly.

And don't get me started on Sandoval .

Well if you sign E5, you make it work regardless. Someone else would have obviously been out of a job. They had a surplus of CI/DH options not making E5 an ideal fit at the time. Had they cut bait with Sandoval sooner, it would have made more sense. With Hanley not being able to take the field, having E5 at first for a full season might have gotten ugly as well.

Moreland has played well. He's not E5 offensively, but more than makes up for it with his defense IMO.
