The nfl used to have the rookies play the defending nfl champs in a pre-season game.
One year, the league brought in cleveland browns from a american league in the early 50s. The cleveland players were considered rookies.
Otto Graham was rookie qb. He had won the american league a couple of times. Green bay was favored double digits. The "rookies" trounced gb and they stopped having the rookie game.
Graham also played pro basketball.

Are the Saints handicapped in some way that I'm missing?

I mean, they're a pro team and Alabama is a college team. About the only thing Alabama could hope for is the Saints' offense getting tired from being on the field all game, and eventually making a mistake or simply dropping the ball on the ground out of pity.

The only thing I could see is that Alabama has some NFL-caliber DBs, and MIGHT manage an INT or two depending if Brees is having an off night or not. If he's on, this is "record setting score" territory, and if he's off it might ONLY be Saints 50 - Alabama 7 (INT returned for a TD). Nothing short of a turnover in the red zone is going to get Alabama's offense with a shot of a TD.

In this scenario, JK Scott might be a hindrance only in as much that NO is going to gain that many more yards for each TD drive than if we had a crappy punter.

Come on man. Unless you're saying "New Orleans cannot substitute, even with injuries" or "Saints... Scout Team", this would be absurd.

Really, if you got the All-Americans with a decent bit of time to prepare, they could put up a game. We're talking all the very best players in CFB, with ample time to practice together and learn the systems, could compete with an NFL squad. That's the only scenario that occurs, and even then the NFL team wins 90%?

Admittedly, I'm not 100% on the level of the Saints roster.

I know some players Alabama has that will likely start their rookie seasons, if they can adapt to the systems quickly enough (like Minkah Fitzpatrick and Calvin Ridley). Of course, that doesn't mean they'd start for New Orleans specifically, as I don't know how the starters are for NO at every position.

That said, that's after those players have the entire offseason in an NFL training camp and learning the NFL system, which is different than just walking over to the other side of the field and tossing on a Saints uniform.

This is the most absurd comparison people ever make. The worst NFL team would kill the best college team. No college team, no matter what year, would stand a chance against an NFL team.

Just disregarding the physical differences, which are huge, the mental aspect is just night and day.

These are professional athletes that spend every waking moment watching film and practicing. They don't have to go to class.

QB is the biggest thing. Hurts would not be able to make any throws at all. The windows just wouldn't be there.

On the other side, Brees throws for 300 yards against good NFL Defenses. Do you imagine what he would do to a college D with a week of study.

I think the better question would be, if you put Brees on a mediocre College team, would they go undefeated and win a NC?

I think the answer is similar to putting Lebron on the worst D1A team. They'd be somewhat of a contender, but I can see them losing in both instances, mainly on the defensive end to elite teams where Brees would have no ability to help and Lebron could only help so much before his 4 bums are overtaken by the powerhouse schools.

The difference between college football players and NFL players is marginal. Probably the stupidest thing posted in this thread
