Almost every single one of his big plays he caught slants and housed them or blew by CBs in a post route (and obviously returns)

I mean this just isn’t true.

Here’s just a few because my phone hates loading gifs

No you don’t. Tyler Lockett, Calvin Ridley, Odell Beckham, Tyreek Hill, Will Fuller...there’s quite a list dispelling that

I compared him to Jordan Matthews in that thread originally but I meant it as a compliment bc I thought Matthews was a stud when he came out and still don’t know what happened to his career

There were 3 people in that thread that thought JJ could be elite

The thread was pre-combine, and people thought for some reason he was a slow possession only WR

Then at the combine he runs the fastest time behind Ruggs

AND STILL PEOPLE THOUGHT HE COULDNT BE A BIG PLAY WR

It made no sense I fought alot of people last year about this

Literally none of those are high pointing the ball in traffic. 3 of them are him burning corners playing too far off of him. One was a chest catch on the sideline.

Do you know what high pointing the ball in traffic means? Do you know what "almost" means? Go watch his highlight videos on youtube.

I think a lot of the skepticism came from JJ playing almost entirely out of the slot in his big season.

A lot of it also came from the same thing the MSB knocks on Bama receivers, there are 3 other threats on the field

I mean if professional scouts screw up draft picks all the time (and they obviously do), what do you expect from a message board where everyone has a huge bias towards one team and against most others.

Have you ever seen the Saints Board? they complain every year because every guy taken isn't from LSU. They are currently the #1 seed in the NFC without 53 LSU guys

I’m not going to dig through hours of YouTube videos and create gifs to prove a point to you because I’ve watched every snap of Jaylen waddles career and you haven’t. I’ve seen him make dozens of contested catches. I’ve seen him high point the ball many times. If you want to find some clips of him dropping contested balls or getting out jumped for them then be my guest. He’s proven that he can do it when he needs to

By the way, the NFL values the skill of getting open a lot more than the skill of making the catch when you can’t. Waddle has tape making contested catches, but he usually doesn’t have to because someone is usually pretty open since he got to college

well Minny also thought he was a slot guy, as that is where he started the season

then they moved him outside and he has flourished

even professionals got it wrong at first

Dude - Lockett, Ridley, and Beckham are incredible at high pointing the ball in traffic and getting off of physical corners.

Tyreek Hill usually catches with his body but he's the fastest player I've ever seen in pads play this game.

Fuller has yet to play a full season and is streaky AF.

I don't know what you're trying to prove with this. I'm not saying Waddle can't be great at things in the future. Just saying he hasn't proven it like the other guys, is 5'10", and is coming off a season ending leg injury.

Chase and Smith are more well-rounded receivers.

Think your first and third gifs are the same. They look the same but I had to look at them closely or they are just really similar

It never made any sense

Never. He ran a blazing 40 at the combine, had more explosive play TDs than any other WR in the draft last year (balls caught over 20 yards in the air), and had superb route running

It was ridiculous on all levels that he was thought of as a "slot possession wr"

I think these guys get a bad rep. It is one of the harder positions as you are going over the middle and are often the most trusted WR on a team and the first guys QBs look at for a 3rd and medium.

Waddle has shown PLENTY of times that he can high point and catch contested balls in traffic.

Jefferson is also incredible at working with a QB. He reads their eyes so damn well and finds an open space on the field where they'll see him. Burrow talked about it at LSU, he is a QBs best friend. Such an underrated WR quality.

You’re insinuating that waddle isn’t fast and physical which you claim is necessary. In what realm does he not tick both boxes if you think these guys do? You’re just talking out of your arse man. You see 5’10” and think he can’t catch a ball in traffic because you saw some YouTube videos of him housing slant passes or running by people

Show me the plenty of examples of Waddle going up against big, NFL style corners and high pointing the ball over them. I watch most Bama games and went through several of his highlight videos.

You guys are being too sensitive, I said he's a great WR and I'd love him on the Saints, but I wouldn't pick him over Chase and Smith.

Show me this:

He is doing exactly what you did with Jefferson last year

Its called bias, we all have it

Last picture is the Auburn catch I referenced, but the rest I have no idea what they prove.

I said he's crazy explosive and has insane agility. I just said he doesn't as much film the others do showing the ability to by physical in the air and grab the ball at it's highest point against top level CBs.

That's it. I also said he might be able to, he just hasn't shown it as much. I also said I'd love him on my team.

He's a great fricking player. Chill out

But I'm not. I think Waddle is stud, they thought Justin Jefferson was Jordan Matthews.

He was not the top target last year and got hurt this year, so the film of him doing some things that Chase and Smith have done in traffic and against #1 NFL level CBs just isn't there nearly as much as it is for the other guys. He's got more unknown, which on top of the injury, makes me not put him above other guys.
