Hakeem, the Dream Shake is how babies are made

I give it to The Dream slightly because he's not a liability late and he's better on the defensive end.
I hate getting into discussions this late because at this point they're just arguments, no one is budging, and people are starting to make absurd claims. For anyone to think this isn't a close debate either way is crazy.
One thing I will say, and someone brought it up briefly, is where Hakeem really made his defensive impact was in overall team defense and off the ball defense. That's not to say he wasn't a great on-the-ball defender, but he was exceptional in help defense. So while he didn't shutdown Shaq he affected everyone else. I can remember point guards driving into the lane, having a clear path to Hakeem and just turning around because they knew they had no chance.
Two great players for sure.

Tell me about it. Shaq was not the best ever. I'd put Hakeem ahead of it. A Lew Alcindor from the 70's would've kicked his arse, especially with that skyhook shot of his. Just think that time Duncan took him to school with that shot. Kareem would've done more damage.
Then there is one center everyone has forgotten who would give Shaq fits: Lambeer. Thats right, Bill Lambeer. He consistently knocked down the three. Shaq would HAVE to cover him, now you have shaq on the perimeter having to actually play defense or else Bill knocks down the shot over and over. That opens it up for the cutters, Aguire, Thomas, and the others.
tell you another one who would've given him problems: Parish. Didn't have the numbers but didn't have to on that team. However, I saw way too many top centers, including Hakeem and Ewing, have bad days against him. He didn't have to score 20 a game or nail 25 rebounds. He just had to play defense and protect the middle on offense.
But if you are asking me to rank them, sorry, I put Hakeem and Alcindor over Shaq. I'm not so sure Moses wouldn't do good against him either even at 6'10". Malone loved a good fight and loved to get physical. I remember Shaq backing away from a fight with Sir Charles.
For those of you smirking about Horry, he was the black danny ainge, seemed to wind up on alot of championship teams. Reason for that.

It's crazy that people say,"Shaq was just big". He was extremely quick and nimble for his size.

Shaq was more dominant. Shaq was more impressive. Shaq won more. If you want a soft outside shot, Shaqs not your guy. If you want to break the will of your opponent he is. No comparison. Shaq

I can't decide.

tell you what, watch the video of what Alcindor does to Wilt Chamberlain. Shaq would've had his arse kicked by that sky hook.

i think big lew and shaq would both basically do what they wanted on offense

didn't see the series where Duncan took Shaq to school with that shot, did you? And Duncan was not in the league of Lew. Most of us saw him as Kareem, not a young Lew with Oscar Robertson feeding him.
That is what is getting me about this discussion, y'all are leaving Lew Alcindor out of this equation and he was better than Hakeem and Lambeer would've screwed up Shaq as well.

I'm on my phone so I can't post the YouTube video of Wilt, way past him prime, owning that unblockable sky hook of Kareem. It's worth a watch. Wilts length and shot blocking ability eclipses every other player.

He is probably being left out because this thread is about who is better between Shaq and Hakeem. Not who is better between Shaq, Hakeem, and Kareem

It seems like every comparison thread morphs after page 3 or 4!

Hakeem 110%.
Look at the '95 NBA Finals when the Rockets played and beat the Magic in 4 games. Hakeem went head to head against Shaq and completely dominated him.
The Dream.

No, y'all started saying best ever. I say Lew because most of the posters knew him as Kareem and when he was past his prime.
as for Wilt, watch the rest of that video, he nailed a few sky hooks on wilt.

I would take Hakeem over Shaq too....They were both GREAT players though. I saw Dream play many times in the NBA , and I was at LSU when Shaq played .....I feel grateful to have seen both play.
Looks like the Olajuwon case has already been made here : LINK
I wonder how much of this factored into the creation of this thread

Shaq averaged 28 points, (on 60% shooting), 13 rebounds, 6 assist, and 3 blocks in that series
Hakeem averaged 33 points, (on 48% shooting), 12 rebounds, 6 assist, and 2 blocks
So, Hakeem averaged 5 more points a game, but he did so by taking an average of 10 more shots a game than Shaq did
Yeah, Hakeem really dominated Shaq in that series

Man I'm a Rockets fan and I hate people saying Hakeem dominated Shaq in that finals
Why do people insist on giving players credit/blame for team accomplishments?
