Iowa has thrown 4 passes in a row
Purdue has thrown far more than they have run the ball

Rutgers has Illinois and Liberty let on their schedule. It'll get worse.

Rutgers is the ultimate example of a team falling upwards in conference realignment.

What happened to Purdue? Brohm was one of the hottest names last year.

Rondale Moore is hurt. He's what made them interesting.

Big ten kind of weak this year. Wisconsin is fighting with Illinois. Only good team is OSU. Hope they can make the playoff.

Rutgers is located in
1) Nyc metro. Millions of tv sets.
2) north Jersey has very strong high school football.
Giving the area a big ten membership cuts into what is currently notre dame territory.
Its a very good school too.
State u of new jersey and old.
A good addition.
Long term tgey will hit on another schiano and be a factor for years.
Same for hoops and hardball.
The area has all that so one really good coach to mine it.

This is very similar to the lines that justified two NFL teams in LA.

The quality of the school isn’t the problem.
The athletic programs being somewhat uniformly bad is the problem. They were pretty bad in the Big East and have declined further since joining the Big Ten.
Rutgers has been able to mine that location of theirs once in the past 40 years and that was a very brief peak under Schiano in football. Their claim to fame in athletics, AFAIK, is playing in the NCAA women’s basketball title game and getting called “nappy headed hoes” by Don Imus.
It may be considered a “sleeping giant” thanks to the proximity to NYC and the quality of NJ and PA football, but I don’t see that program pulling it together without a total makeover in the athletic department.
The “falling upward” comment in particular was that they basically got picked thanks to location and academic reputation as opposed to any on-field qualities.
They are arguably the least impressive Power 5 school in history considering that even perennial doormats like Oregon State, Northwestern, Wake Forest, and Kansas have made huge bowl games in the past 30 years.

Their peak was a Texas Bowl appearance because they blew a season finale against West Virginia.
Had they won, they would have had an auto berth in the BCS. Louisville got that bid over them and beat Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl.
