It's just weird that he left after they won.

Usually, it's like "If we win, he'll stay."

Apparently not.

Aside from "The Decision", isn't Pujols leaving the Cards as bad as Lebron leaving the Cavs? I mean Pujols didn't even have trying to win a title factored in....money seems to be the only reason he left.

I don't care who it is, 10-year deals for a player on the wrong side of 30 are stupid. The Angels have money but unless they plan on spending Yankee money the next 3 years, this could bite them in the arse. They'll have $50-million tied up in Pujols and Vernon Wells. Vernon. Friggin. Wells.

I've seen ONE 10-year deal worth a shite. The Rockies locked up Tulo for ~$160-million over 10 when he was 25. The Yankees got Jeter when he was 25/26 for 10 years. Wasn't a terrible deal but not a great one either.

It won't help. The Rangers now have nothing even moderately resembling an ace pitcher. And when have the Rangers ever signed a marquee free agent without badly overpaying?

Nobody wants to come to Texas. They had their chance to be a marquee destination, and gave it away twice in Game 6.

Over/under--12 years before the Rangers even compete for the playoffs again much less make them.

Obviously, there is a high risk in signing a player that long, but Pujols has had the best first eleven years of a career. I am not saying that he will be worthwhile in the latest years, but hell, if he is the best player on a team that wins a couple WS in the next 5 or 7 years, then it could be worth it. I just think we cannot jump on declaring this a good bad deal yet. Very hard to tell. All I know is a lock HOF player making a shite ton of money.

The day the Angels took on that contract is the day that Alex Anthropolous became the best GM in baseball.

The funny thing is that the AA are going to pay for his early years production but will be getting the decline. Albert is still a phenomenal player, but he's not the old Pujols. Deserves that money for what he has done. Just glad St. Louis is footing the bill.

You are the biggest doom and gloom mother fricker I've ever seen.

Rangers are rumored to be going after Yu Darvish. We'll see what happens with the bidding.

Even WITH Pujols, if the Rangers re-sign who they need to, I think the Rangers offense is better.

There is still talk of the Rangers going after Fielder.

I have faith in Nolan and Daniels to do what needs to be done. We have 2 brilliant baseball minds in the front office. Let them do what they do best.

What blew my mind is how he pulled that deal off with only paying Wells' signing bonus.

I've always held the general rule that if you are a piece that contributes to winning a title, you're worth it. Then again I'm a Yankees fan so that is easy to say. The problem the Angels will have is managing that roster. They have about ~$150 committed to next year already, and they still have a couple of question marks lingering. They're going to pass up NY, Boston, and Phillie, or they're going to have to make some REALLY creative moves.

not necessarily. it is possible, likely imo, that the angels will regret the length of that contract. it is very risky. i don't know the attendence situation for them because that salary will require about 10,000 xtra butts in the seats per game. he's 32 years old and has an uncertain elbow. i think the cardinals, AT THIS TIME, will be better off taking the 25 mil. and getting other players.

Nolan is a very valuable asset.

Even Nathan said what sold him was his dinner with Nolan. His friend said he was "wowed"

Supposedly they're hesitant to drop $100-million

The rumor is that he wants more than Rice-K and "would be insulted" if he gets a lower posting fee. Rice-K carried a 52-million posting fee. That is a BIG hit to take...then you gotta throw in a contract (I'm guessing) similar to what Lackey/Burnett/Rice-K/Wilson have.

Gotta wonder if the Rangers can afford it...and if he is even worth it. IMO...he's not.

When has anyone signed a marquee free agent without overpaying? If the Rangers really wanted Pujols, Fielder, Wilson, or anyone else they'd be Rangers.

This is ridiculous, Rangers still have better talent in their organization than anyone in baseball IMO. If you're a Ranger fan then you need your fan card revoked.

Don't know if this has been mentioned... SIAP

Angels owner Artie Moreno paid Albert Pujols $254 million -- $72 more million than he bought his team for in 2003.

If this doesn't show how out of control MLB and sports salaried are getting, I don't know what does.

That's true, should have said signed a marquee free agent away from his former team. Angels had to go at least 30 million higher than the Cards to get Pujols.
